Gagne playing in Game 3 for Flyers West

POSTED: Monday, June 4, 2012, 2:45 PM

Flyers West just added another former player from the Orange and Black.

The surging Los Angeles Kings announced that left winger Simon Gagne will play in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals on Monday night against visiting New Jersey.

The Kings lead the series, two games to none.

Gagne, 32, the Flyers’ No. 1 pick in the 1998 draft, will come off the injured list and play in his first game since Dec. 26. He has been sidelined with a concussion.

In 16 career playoff games against New Jersey - all with the Flyers - Gagne has three goals and three assists. He will replace Brad Richardson in Monday's lineup.

Gagne was injured in his third game playing for new coach Darryl Sutter. He had seven goals and 17 points in 34 games this season _ and did not score a goal in the last 17 games he played.

By playing in one Finals game, Gagne will get his name engraved on the Cup if the Kings win it.

It couldn't happen to a classier guy.

bigdaddyG - Really? You know nothing about the Flyers, do you? I didnt realize Thome was drafted by the Phillies, and played 10 years with them, scoring numerous CLUTCH runs in the playoffs over those 10 years, and was an all-around class guy and fan favorite in Philly for over a decade. I'd never heard that about Thome before....interesting.

Your comparison is so far off....I don't even know where to begin. Ridiculous.

Agreed. SmallMommy, that's just lame. You have no sense of Flyers history. Don't talk anymore.

Let's hope they win and he scores. This is what happens to old Flyers. They move on and win the cup. Our fans should be happy about this, at least some team is taking advantage of the talent we draft, then trade/allow to leave. We are making a difference, just not in Philly.

Gagne deserves to have his name on the Cup, and now he will. He's paid a high price for it when you consider all the concussions and the potential long-term effects.

Not 'Flyers West.' The Flyers are the Kings farm team: A place to stash underachievers destined for obscurity, and a source of smart hockey players and management.

Don't understand any hate for a former Philly player who laid it on the line every night for his entire career here and now has a Chance to reach the ultimate dream with another team......not many more deserving than Gagne...Go get it Simon

Again, who cares? He had a chance to come back with the Flyers and chose to sign with the Kings. Stop with all the bleeding hearts stuff people...

Enough with the "Flyers West" nonsense. Kopitar, Doughty, Quick, Brown, et al were never Flyers.

bigdaddyG: Gagne is nothing like Thome. We drafted Gagne. Like Richards and Carter. Thome was a rent a star to prop up the new ballpark. Flyers West is true because you have Hexy there, Stevens, Fraser (drafted by Flyers), Gagne, Richards, Carter, and Williams.

Agree with No Slack Delta, Stewie Lavin 27, klew. Gagne was my favorite Flyer during his time here and it's good to see him play in the Finals and get his name on the Cup, even if not as a Flyer. He looked rather gaunt, however, like he'd lost a lot of muscle. I guess that's what happens when you're out for 5 months.
