For Flyers, home is not so sweet

Home ice has not been very friendly to the Flyers this season. You could look it up.

The Flyers have won just 21 of 40 games at the Wells Fargo Center (21-12-7), and they will play their final regular-season home game Thursday against the desperate Buffalo Sabres.

Only nine NHL teams have fewer home wins that the Flyers, who are an impressive 25-12-3 on the road. They lead the NHL in road wins.

That’s why starting the playoffs in Pittsburgh - the likely scenario - isn’t such a daunting task. The Flyers are 5-0 at the Consol Energy Center since it opened last season.

Ilya Bryzgalov will oppose Buffalo’s Ryan Miller on Thursday. Buffalo is tied for the eighth and final playoff spot in the East, but Washington has the first tie-breaker _ most wins in regulation or OT.

Miller, who has returned to form recently, has been dreadful against the Flyers. In three appearances, he is 0-1-1 (one no-decision) with a 7.12 GAA and .806 save percentage.

Bryzgalov has won all three games against the Sabres this season, compiling a 2.63 GAA and .905 save percentage.

If Washington defeats Florida on Thursday, and Buffalo loses in regulation to the Flyers, the Sabres would be eliminated.
