Flyers snap Pens' streak in dramatic fashion

After being overmatched for most of the first two periods, the Flyers rallied and ended the Pittsburgh Penguins' 11-game winning streak Sunday, 3-2, in an overtime thriller at the Wells Fargo Center on Sunday afternoon.

Scott Hartnell's second goal of the game, scored with 0.9 seconds left, gave the Flyers an improbable comeback victory.

Danny Briere set up Hartnell, who has a career-high 35 goals.

The Flyers won despite being outshot, 40-27. They have three wins in four games against the hated Penguins this season.

Ilya Bryzgalov stopped Sidney Crosby from the left circle with 3:44 left in overtime. A little over a minute later, Pittsburgh's Marc-Andre Fleury turned aside Briere's game-winning attempt from the right circle.

Sidney Crosby fired wide on a great chance with a little over two minutes left, and then Fleury stopped Hartnell after a nice set up by Briere.

Two minutes later, Hartnell scored from the slot to end the drama.

After looking outmatched for long stretches, the Flyers got goals from Kimmo Timonen (power play) and Hartnell in the first 4:47 of the third period, knotting the score at 2-2. Claude Giroux helped set up both scores.

Pittsburgh built a 2-0 lead and outshot the Flyers, 27-10, after two periods. The Flyers had just two second-period shots.

Craig Adams gave Pittsburgh a 1-0 lead on a double-deflection with 6:29 left in the first period. He tipped Kris Letang's drive and it hit off the left skate of Flyers defenseman Brandon Manning and went past Bryzgalov, who had no chance.

With 53 seconds left in the second, Malkin scored after muscling past Giroux and making a nifty move out front, giving Pittsburgh a 2-0 lead.

Malkin and Giroux are two of the league's leading MVP contenders.

Entering Sunday, the Pens had outscored their last 11 victims, 43-17, in regulation.

The NHL record for consecutive wins: 17 set by Pittsburgh in 1993. Jaromir Jagr, now with the Flyers, was on that team.

The Flyers' Zac Rinaldo rushed off the ice and headed to the locker room after being inadvertently hit in the face by teammate Hartnell's stick midway through the second period. Rinaldo received medical attention and returned in the third period.

The Flyers were without five recently injured players: Andreas Lilja, Max Talbot, Pavel Kubina, Andrej Meszaros and James van Riemsdyk.

In 2010, the Flyers also ended a Pens' 11-game winning streak.
