Gustafsson re-called; Pronger worse than thought?

POSTED: Friday, February 25, 2011, 3:54 PM

The Flyers have re-called rookie defenseman Erik Gustafsson from the Adirondack Phantoms.

Gustafsson, 22, will meet the Flyers in Ottawa later this afternoon in preparation for their game with the Senators tomorrow night.

Gustafsson’s re-call – after general manager Paul Holmgren said earlier in the week that he was not interested in bringing up a young player from the Phantoms to sit as a healthy scratch – may say more about Chris Pronger’s wrist injury.

Pronger took a puck off the wrist in Thursday’s overtime win but said he was fine to play against Ottawa on Saturday.

"His hand is a little bit swollen," Holmgren said. "Whether Chris can play or not [Saturday], is too soon to tell. He had a little trouble gripping his stick today."

Holmgren said Pronger had an afternoon doctors appointment to learn more.

Gustafsson was re-called earlier this season, and spent 5 days with the Flyers during a West Coast road trip, but did not play in any games.

Gustafsson is tied for the Phantoms' lead in scoring 33 points (5 goals, 28 assists) on the blue line for the Phantoms this season. He was signed out of Northern Michigan University on March 3, 2010. The Flyers chose Gustafsson over veteran Danny Syvret and fellow blueliner Kevin Marshall.

Please ban this Tonka jerk from all philly.com sports posts.
He is violently anti Philadelphia, and his authoritatively
sounding posts about the duration of Philly athletes'
injuries is abusive by all definitions, distracting the posters
to respond and rebut his nonsense. Please ban TONKA Toy

Lies about injuries is sociopathic. Ban Tonka, and cleanse him
from Philly.com. He has a pattern about posting lies about injuries
to the Eagles and Flyers. This is malicious, and doesn't constitute
opinions, but instead grafitti. Please check all of his posts in the last year, and see that a permanent ban is warranted.
