Flyers summon Tye McGinn
Frank Seravalli
UPDATE (1:45 p.m.): Flyers confirm Rinaldo will be out a minimum of one week with a "thigh laceration," also confirming McGinn call-up.
BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Tye McGinn’s stay with the Flyers during training camp did not last as long as he had hoped. With the season rapidly approaching, the Flyers sent McGinn - a 4th round pick in 2010 - back to AHL Adirondack last Wednesday.
Less than a week later, McGinn is back.
As reported by the Glens Falls Post-Star, McGinn was summoned back to Philadelphia on Sunday night after the Phantoms’ shootout win against Albany in Atlantic City.
McGinn, 22, could be a candidate to replace Zac Rinaldo, who required 20 stitches in his quadriceps area after being cut by an errant skate on Sunday against the Sabres, in the Flyers’ lineup on Tuesday night in New Jersey.
Jody Shelley and Tom Sestito were healthy scratches on Sunday.
Tuesday night would mark McGinn’s NHL debut. He has 23 goals and 10 assists in 96 career AHL games. McGinn is known as a tireless worker on the forecheck who has developed a net presence, which is something the Flyers sorely lacked in their opening games.
The Flyers’ brass was pleased with his abbreviated training camp showing.
“We got a chance to look at Tye McGinn, who we were really happy with,” Flyers GM Paul Holmgren said last Friday. “I think if we were to get into a situation where we needed someone to call up, he could come up and play.”
Rinaldo would likely need to be added to the short-term injury list to make room on the 23-man roster. He was having trouble walking as he left First Niagara Center on Sunday.
If the Flyers added Danny Briere (wrist) to the short-term injury list last week, Briere will not be eligible to play until Saturday at the earliest. Holmgren said it was possible that the team would list him on the non-roster portion of the reserve list, which would enable him to return sooner if possible. Briere, who is a point-per-game player against both Buffalo and Pittsburgh as a Flyer, missed both games this weekend but was expected to skate on his own.
McGinn's older brother, Jamie, who plays for the Colorado Avalanche, tweeted congratulations on Sunday night.
The Flyers are off on Monday, before boarding a bus to head to North Jersey in preparation for the Devils.

PLEASE DO RINALDO IS AWFUL main liner
Voracek positively sucks. Timmonen's back passing at red line on powerplay is stupid. sammydelphia
I am not worried yet. Even if we lose the next one I am not worried. Nitroglycerin
Sestito or Shelley deserve to play over this guy. McGinn should be watching from the press box. We need a bruising heavyweight out there vs the Devils. Ferrell31
scott stevens is god...man I miss players like him bigtom blew3
why is a forth line part time player
headline news? ghost78
This team seems to have an odd mix of players. We have a bunch of medium sized forwards who are neither fast or tough. Then we also have big defensemen who are slow and not tough. I know it's not 1975 anymore but I don't think being the least physical team in the league is necessarily a positive these days. And no, Hartnell shouldn't be fighting. Either should the Schenn brothers. They should have at least one or two other guys who can handle that when needed. Not sure what Fedotenko brings anymore that it's necessary to scratch someone with some muscle. guyguy4
Teams pretty young...a couple more early losses...does the GM make any moves? Romus
This comment has been deleted. scott-stevens-is-god- "god philthy is horrible have fun this year not making the playoffs and going 0-3 after tmw. the devils will own u just like last year and the year before that and the year before that and the year before that get the picture

I think the picture you get is looking out your filthy tenement window at your neighbor's 18 inch black and white tv. Zach Parise had the good sense to get out of Newark. This is one of those times where the rats stayed on the sinking ship. And Scott Stevens lacks the brains God gave to geese. Claudio Vernight
Hartnell can handle the fights? Wow. Nothing like having a winger on your top line do all the fighting. I'm sure he'll do good against Rupp, Asham, Glass, Carkner, Martin, Jansenn, and all the other tough guys in the Atlantic. The Flyers believe a team full of guys under 25 who play finesse can win the cup? Maybe in the KHL, but not here. Our 4th line when we went to the finals was Lappy, Asham, and Carcillo. Our 4th line is now McGinn, Wellwood, and Fedotenko. Biggest sissy Flyers team in their history, but thats what Flyers fans want, finesse hockey. My how the times have changed. It's a sad day when teams like Montreal, Tampa and Florida have tougher lineups. oobeyboobey
Need to bring in Murray to handle the defence. We are slow and need systems geared toward who we now are. We are NOT offensice juggernaut.
Lavy's "hell bent for leather" offensive assault need to be just a part of game plan. Wish we signed Carle. Grossman and Shenn should be positionally stronger to compensate for lack of speed. Hartnell's lack of conditioning was a predictable event. Now we watch him get into shape by #36 and have a season of 12 games. Ugh! Murray's defense and Lavy's offense is the answer. If he's being recalled and will suit up in place of Rinaldo (as opposed to being a scratch on the 23-man roster), the message should be pretty clear to Sestito and Shelley. sklandog
cut shelly and Sestito and make room for Laughner and McGinn. Good solid young players with fresh legs who are eventually 1st and 2nd line material vs. regular scratch players. Hartnell can handle the fights connorjr- Go watch golf or tennis
