Flyers-Penguins opener

POSTED: Thursday, January 10, 2013, 8:43 AM

It has been rumored for about a week, but a source familiar with the process said on Wednesday it's now virtually certain that the Flyers will host their bitter rivals, the Pittsburgh Penguins, in the teams' season opener on Jan. 19.

The game is tentatively scheduled for 3 p.m.

Penn State plays Vermont at the Wells Fargo Center that night at 7:30. The source said the time of that game will be moved back, if necessary. It will probably be moved to 8:15.

No Luongo. Forget about the Internet rumors that the Flyers will acquire goalie Roberto Luongo. Multiple sources say the Flyers have no interest. Ilya Bryzgalov is their man.

sorry guys, you lost this fan. I'll tune in around March or April. And you're lucky if I remain interested when the Cup is played in JUNE?! JUNE?! Come, get serious. Hockey in June?

The playoffs usually go till June during a non-lockout year, for what it's worth.

@MichaelZoe: sounds like you weren't much of a fan to begin with...the Cup has been played in June for years now...or do you not remember when the Flyers played the 'Hawks for the cup in 2010...IN JUNE

Multiple sources say they DO have interest (that does not mean "will acquire"). The source that apparently says Flyers don't have interest is Holmgren. Who's never hidden his intentions in the past...

Don't get me wrong, I think he's a great GM and I'm glad we have him, but he's sneaky.

I'll forever be a fan of hockey, even if there is a lockout.

Also, the playoffs has gone through June for a while now. Maybe you don't notice because the Flyers don't always make it that far and you could care less about hockey otherwise. I love watching hockey through the whole playoffs because it's more exciting than any other sport, in my opinion.

Regardless of how shitty the lockout comes across for fans, I'm still vested in supporting the flyers because I'm a hockey fan. Should be a hell of a game. Def going to try to find tickets for that blood fest. Just hoping Girous asks for that first shift again... epic.

@MichaelZoe -- As jpatt6 said, you clearly weren't much of a fan anyway considering that you didn't know the Stanley Cup finals have been held in June for many years now.

Why do people take the time to post before doing ANY homework at all? What a genius.

I am very pissed off regarding million dollar and billion dollar players and owners shutting a sport down which I love and been following since the old WHA days when Bernie played for the Philly Blazers and I was a season ticket holder in the late 70's early 80's however I can not wait for the season to get under way. especially for the people who work there and depend on the money. However today's world is all about lettuce and nothing else so with that said let's put our feelings aside and get ready for some hockey
