Flyers' Hartnell may miss 4 weeks; injury worse than feared

DETROIT _ Scott Hartnell's upper-body injury is more serious than the Flyers initially thought, general manager Paul Holmgren said before Saturday's game in Detroit.

After an MRI was performed, Holmgren said Hartnell will miss two to four weeks. The veteran left winger was injured in Friday's 2-1 loss to Phoenix, and Holmgren originally expected him to miss a week.

Hartnell broke his foot in the third game last season and had a subpar year after he returned.

Holmgren would not reveal specifics about the injury. The GM also said Vinny Lecavalier would miss about a week with a lower-body injury. He was injured when he collided with a Coyotes player.

The Flyers will not pursue a trade, Holmgren said, adding he will give Michael Raffl and Tye McGinn a chance to show they belong. Both were recalled from the Phantoms Saturday.

McGinn will be on the top line Saturday, with Claude Giroux and Jake Voracek.  Raffl and Wayne Simmonds will be wingers on the second line, centered by Brayden Schenn.

Ray Emery will be in goal for the 1-4 Flyers, who have scored six goals _ their lowest total in the first five games in franchise history.
