Flyers defenseman Andrej Meszaros is out indefinitely after having surgery to repair a torn right Achilles tendon, the team announced Tuesday.

Meszaros suffered the injury during a training session in Slovakia last week, according to Flyers GM Paul Holmgren. The surgery was performed Tuesday morning at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia.

The loss of Meszaros is a big hit to a Flyers team which was already short on quality defensemen.

Meszaros was plus-6 for the Flyers last season and tallied seven goals and 18 assists.

I like him, but he must be the most injury-prone of any defensemen in the league. Sore back and now this. Get well soon, Mesz.

Well, we had no defense before he got hurt so this is devastating. Oh well, there's always 2014. Keep that cap space clear for a run next year homer. Don't fool yourself into thinking you have a chance this year and waste money or good young players in a trade only to fizzle out in the 1st round. Think long term.
