Do Flyers need to fight more?

Does fighting equal winning? Sounds like a ridiculous notion.

Does fighting equal winning? Sounds like a ridiculous notion.

It doesn't if you look at the statistics.

For a punchless Flyers team, punching might be exactly what they need. Consider:

  • The Flyers average 1.13 points per game in games with at least one fight and  0.64 points per game with no fights.
  • The Flyers are 4-1-0 in games with at least two fights.
  • If they averaged 1.13 points per game over the 30 games thus far, the Flyers would have 34 points, good enough for a tie for sixth place in the Eastern Conference.

The stats:

Games Fights Points Points / Game
   14    0    9        0.64
   11    1   10        0.91
    5    2    8        1.60
Total: 30    -   27        0.90
