Bobrovsky named Rookie of the Month
Flyers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky, who posted a 7-1-2 record with a 2.02 goals-against average and .931 save percentage in 11 starts, has been named the NHL Rookie of the Month for November.
Bobrovsky edged Carolina Hurricanes forward Jeff Skinner (4-8--12 in
14 games) and Colorado Avalanche defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk (4-7--11 in
13 GP) for the award.
Bobrovsky allowed two goals or fewer in eight appearances, plus a season-high 36 saves in a 3-2 overtime loss at Washington on Nov. 7. He allowed just one goal in victories over the New York Rangers (4-1, Nov. 4), New York Islanders (2-1, Nov. 6), Carolina Hurricanes (8-1, Nov. 11), Ottawa Senators (5-1, Nov. 15) and Minnesota Wild (6-1, Nov. 24).
A strong start to the season, which included a five-game winning streak and 10 consecutive games without a regulation loss (9-0-1), earned Bobrovsky the starting job. He is tied for third among NHL goaltenders in wins (12-4-2) and ranks sixth in goals-against average (2.18) and save percentage (.926).
No Flyer has ever won the NHL's Calder Memorial Trophy for Rookie of the Year. Bill Barber was edged by the Rangers' Steve Vickers in 1972 and Ron Hextall was snubbed by Luc Robitaille in 1987.

CORRECTION: Our apologies to a few local players whom we missed in our story today about local boy Colby Cohen, who made his NHL debut earlier in November with Colorado but was traded to Boston this week.

Jay Caufield - North Penn HS - won Stanley Cup with Pittsburgh in 1992.
Ryan Mulhern - Malvern Prep - Havertown native played 3 games for the Capitals in 1997-98.
Mark Eaton - Dickinson HS - Wilmington, Del., native now with the Islanders skated for the Little Flyers before going to the USHL as an 18-year-old.
Chris Bala - Hill School - born in Alexandria, Va., played 6 games for the Senators in 2001-02.
Jamie Leach - Cherry Hill East - son Flyers Hall of Famer Reggie Leach, was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and played parts of 5 NHL seasons with the Penguins, Whalers and Panthers.
Unfortunately, Cherry Hill native Bobby Ryan, now with Anaheim, does not meet the criteria since he didn't go to high school in the area.

To even attempt to say that Bobby Ryan wasn't raised in the Philadelphia area is ludicrous, at best. Your colleague, Sam Donnellon, and others, have written entire articles about Ryan being "officially the first NHL superstar from South Jersey." C'mon Frank.— Truth B. Told
