Few people can say that they have skated on the same ice as the Philadelphia Flyers.

Only a select few will be able to say the same about the ice at Fenway Park, home of the Winter Classic clash on Jan. 1 between the Flyers and Bruins.

If you’re independently wealthy, as the Boston Globe’s Kevin Paul Dupont pointed out Wednesday, you’ll have that chance.

Just be ready to fork it over.

The Boston Red Sox are reportedly offering ice slots at Fenway Park, starting on Dec. 18, for somewhere in the neighborhood of $7,000 to $10,000 per hour.

That’s pretty steep for frozen water. An hour at the local skatin’ rink will cost you somewhere in the neighborhood of $200 to $400.

Ah, but it’s not just any frozen water. It’s frozen water with the mystique of Fenway. It’s hockey’s Rink of Dreams. It’s an ice surface in the shadow of the Green Monster and Pesky’s Pole.

I digress.

You’d think that the Sox would have a hard time selling the ice at those prices. They will be having public skating sessions on the ice for far less money; a price that the average Joe Hockey can enjoy.

Even at the (shhh!) tail end of a recession, the Sox say they have more demand than supply for the time.

Interesting. It is mostly being offered to large corporate clients, all of who surely know how to skate, but it’s not out of the realm for your beer league team.

Here’s how to do it:

  • Get together 40 of your closest hockey buddies.
  • Rent the ice for $10,000.
  • Pay for a bus ($2,000) to get your crew to Fenway and back.

Everyone chips in $300 and you’re set.I don’t see what could go wrong.

    i pay 10 bucks at NE skatezone for open hockey. I've skated on the wacho ice and spectrum. that was free.
