Five things to know today about the Flyers as they face Maple Leafs

Five things to know about the Flyers (6-6-2) as they play in Toronto (5-5-3) on Friday night:

1. Steve Mason, coming off a solid performance in a 3-2 shootout loss to Detroit on Tuesday, will make his second straight start. Coach Dave Hakstol is trying to get his goalie into a rhythm.

2. The game, which will feature some of the league's top rookies, will match two of the NHL's worst defensive teams. The Flyers are allowing 3.57 goals per game, 27th in the 30-team NHL, while Toronto is tied for last, surrendering 3.62 goals per game.

3. Claude Giroux and Jake Voracek are tied for eighth in the NHL with 15 points apiece, Giroux is tied for No. 1 in power-play points (nine).

4. With Giroux and Wayne Simmonds leading the way, the Flyers have the league's second-best power play, clicking at 28.3 percent.

5. After a scintillating start that included a four-goal debut, rookie Auston Matthews has just one point, an assist, over his last seven games for Toronto, which is coming off a 7-0 loss to Los Angeles.
