Flyers select Aube-Kubel in 2nd round

The Flyers have selected center-wing Nicolas Aube-Kubel with their second round pick in today's NHL Draft at the Wells Fargo Center.

He was selected 48th overall.

Aube-Kubel, who turned 18 last month, competed for Val d'Or of the Quebec Hockey League, where he had 22 goals and 31 assists in 65 regular season games. During the playoffs, he had four goals, 19 assists and a plus-11 rating in 24 games.

He was ranked the 40th among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting.

"When I put the (Flyers) jersey on it was very special," Aube-Kubel said. "I heard the screams in the stands, it is amazing."

On Friday the Flyers selected defenseman Travis Sanheim with the 17th overall pick in the first round.
