Berube optimistic about Timonen, Rinaldo

Flyers coach Craig Berube said that defenseman Kimmo TImonen would play on Thursday in Anaheim against the Ducks and feels Zac Rinaldo is ready, but wouldn’t say for sure whether he would play.

Flyers coach Craig Berube said that defenseman Kimmo TImonen would play on Thursday in Anaheim against the Ducks and feels Zac Rinaldo is ready, but wouldn’t say for sure whether he would play.

Timonen injured his left foot whle blocking a first-period shot during Tuesday’s 5-0 win over the visiting Detroit Red Wings.

He played briefly in the second period, but was then replaced and didn’t return.

When asked after Wednesday morning’s practice at the Skate Zone if Timmonen would play Thursday, Berube said, “yes.”

TImonen didn’t practice on Wednesday.

“I knew he was fine last night,” Berube said. “We are just making sure and this was just a maintenance day for him.”

Rinaldo has missed 10 games because of a high left ankle sprain. He practiced at full pace on Wednesday.

“He is ready to go,” Berube said.

But will he play on Thursday?

“Maybe, we’ll see,” Berube said. “He’s ready to play.”

Rinaldo will second that.

“I am doing even better than yesterday so I am good to go,” Rinaldo said.

He says there is still some discomfort.

“I have a little ache in back of my foot but it’s normal and I can bear it,” Rinaldo said.

In an additional move, the Flyers have placed forward Chris VandeVelde on waivers, which is a sign that Rinaldo is likely returning.
