NEWARK, NJ -- Flyers coach Craig Berube was naturally ecstatic about the five players on his team who earned Olympic berths and was cautious in his comments, but couldn’t hide his disappointment at the omission of Claude Giroux on the Canadian team.

The Flyers who will be participating are right winger Jake Voracek (Czech Republic); defenseman Kimmo Timonen (Finland); left winger Michael Raffl (Austria); defenseman Andrej Meszaros (Slovakia); and defenseman Mark Streit (Switzerland).

Canada picked its team on Tuesday and Giroux, who has 12 goals and 26 assists in 42 games, was left off.

First, Berube talked about the five who earned Olympic berths.

“I think it is great. Anytime you can play in the Olympics for your country, it’s a great honor so I am very happy for all those guys who made it,” Berube said before tonight’s game at the Prudential Center against the New Jersey Devils.

As for Giroux’s omission, Berube chose his words carefully.

“It’s tough,” Berube said. “I said before, there are a lot of great players in Canada, a lot of guys to choose from; it’s the route they went. As an organization and Claude, you just deal with it.”
