Konecny gets a look at left wing

It was just one of many combinations that Dave Hakstol will experiment with during the course of a long NHL season, but it drew plenty of attention at practice Friday.

The Flyers coach had center Sean Couturier on a line with right winger Jake Voracek and 19-year-old Travis Konecny, who was playing left wing.

Konecny played right wing and had a goal and an assist in a 2-0 win over the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday in Allentown.

The Flyers, with Voracek and 32-goal scorer Wayne Simmonds, are stronger on the right wing. So if Konecny does stick, it appears he would have a better shot at left wing.

"I think that is a possibility, I wouldn't say it is an absolute," Hakstol said after practice at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. "That is one area we are looking at, not just for him, but other players."

Hakstol was asked whether this trio could skate together Saturday at the Wells Fargo Center in a preseason game against the Boston Bruins.

"We might. I don't have anything set yet," Hakstol said.

Konecny is doing his best to make it difficult for the Flyers to send him back to juniors.

The Flyers could also keep him on a nine-game NHL tryout, after which they would have to decide whether to send him back to juniors or keep him.

Konecny got a strong endorsement from his new (at least for a day) linemates.

"He is a great young talent, has a bright future, and is fun to play with," Couturier said.

Added Voracek about the 5-foot-10, 184-pounder: "For his size he is very greedy [to score], he is not scared of anything, and he is skating well. For a 19-year-old he is looking very, very sharp."

Konecny said that he played all three forward positions in juniors and that being on the left side is no major adjustment.

"I am trying not to look too far ahead," he said. "I am trying to play every day, anywhere I am that day, I am focusing on that position and to get the job done that day."
