Flyers' Laughton in hospital after slamming into boards

Flyers left winger Scott Laughton left the ice on a stretcher Wednesday night after crashing into the boards with 3 minutes, 49 seconds left in the first period of the playoff game with the Washington Capitals at the Wells Fargo Center.

Flyers left winger Scott Laughton left the ice on a stretcher Wednesday night after crashing into the boards with 3 minutes, 49 seconds left in the first period of the playoff game with the Washington Capitals at the Wells Fargo Center.

Capitals defenseman John Carlson pushed Laughton below the left circle at the goal line and the Flyers winger slid into the boards. It did not appear to be a dirty hit by Carlson and there was no penalty on the play.

Out of respect, players from both teams tapped their sticks as Laughton was transported off the ice on a backboard.

The Flyers said that Laughton was transported to Jefferson Hospital for precautionary reasons.

The Flyers carried a 1-0 lead into the second period of Game 4.
