Umberger could land on bench vs. Bruins

Flyers coach Dave Hakstol is considering some minor changes to his lineup, and there is a chance that struggling right winger R.J. Umberger is replaced by speedy rookie Jordan Weal in the matchup against visiting Boston on Monday.

Umberger has not scored in his last 48 games, including 30 this season. He has six assists and is plus-1.

Hakstol said that he wasn't going to "scramble things" but that he would likely make a change.

"I think we have to play better, regardless of what the combinations are," he said Sunday after practice in Voorhees. "And I think with that, maybe a tweak to the lineup can sometimes spur that."

Weal has not played since he was acquired from Los Angeles as part of the deal that sent Vinny Lecavalier and Luke Schenn to the Kings on Jan. 6.

Hakstol was asked if Umberger had done enough to remain in the lineup.

"He does so many other little things well," Hakstol said. "There's a little bit of a balance because for our team, being able to score a little bit more is a premium for us. . . . I think as we get to the meat of the second half, we need to continually look for ways to produce a little more offense."

Hakstol said the things Umberger "does in his two-way game are valuable. We also need him to chip in a little bit offensively."

Couturier update

Sean Couturier was unable to practice Sunday and is still listed as day to day.

Couturier has not been on the ice since being injured against Toronto on Tuesday. He is unlikely to play until at least Wednesday in Washington.

Let it snow

Several of the Canadian-born Flyers snickered at the uproar caused by the weekend snowstorm.

"I know it's a huge storm, but growing up in Toronto, this is a regular occurrence," winger Wayne Simmonds said. "It's nice to see it again and go outside and have some fun."

Goalie Steve Mason said he was hoping the team got back from Brooklyn on Saturday "before the roads were plowed so I could put the four-wheel drive in and have some fun out there. We got back and the roads were pretty much bare."
