Gostisbehere on the way back

For the first time since he got hurt Thursday, Flyers defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere skated Monday and said he had no ill effects.

For the first time since he suffered an undisclosed injury Thursday in Minnesota, Flyers defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere skated Monday and said he had no ill effects.

Gostisbehere skated for about 20 minutes with assistant coach Ian Laperriere before practice and later took shots at goalies Steve Mason and Michal Neuvirth.

He did not participate in the regular practice, and he said he did not know if he would play Wednesday against visiting Boston. The Flyers list him as day-to-day.

"It was good to get on the ice and take some shots at the goalies," he said. "Just getting more comfortable and getting my wind back."

Gostisbehere, 22, said his injury did not occur when he collided, knee-to-knee, with Minnesota's Mikko Koivu in the opening period Thursday.

The injury "just happened throughout the game," he said, adding it was "nothing too serious at all."

He played two shifts in the second period then left the game.

Gostisbehere was asked how he felt compared to when the injury occurred.

"Definitely better. I mean, not quite there yet. But I definitely feel good," he said. "It's getting better every day, and we have a couple more days to the game, so we'll see how it goes."

Entering Monday, Gostisbehere had 16 points and led NHL rookie defensemen with seven goals even though he has played just 23 games. He sat out Saturday's 4-0 win over the Islanders.

"It shows the direction our team is headed," he said of the Flyers' third straight victory, "and it's good to see."
