Michal Neuvirth, who missed two games last month with a head injury, is sidelined again.

The Flyers' backup goalie was unable to dress for the game Tuesday against Los Angeles because of an undisclosed upper-body injury, and the team is listing him as day-to-day.

The Flyers recalled Anthony Stolarz, 21, from the Phantoms to serve as Steve Mason's backup Tuesday. Stolarz is 5-3-1 with a 1.90 goals-against average and .930 save percentage with Lehigh Valley.

Mason missed practice Monday because of what the Flyers called a "maintenance day."

Neuvirth has a 3-3-1 record with a 2.08 goals-against average and .939 save percentage.

Ghost sighting

The Flyers are eager to see what speedy defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere can do on the team's top power-play unit, which includes Jake Voracek and Claude Giroux. He opened the scoring with a power-play goal in the first period against the Kings - the first goal of his career

"It's pretty easy when you look over and you have Jake and G on your left and right," Gostisbehere said before the game.

The player they call "Ghost" has replaced Mark Streit, who underwent pubic-plate surgery Tuesday and is expected to miss six weeks.

"I'm going to shoot every chance I get," said a smiling Gostisbehere, referring to his time on the power play, "because I don't want to get yelled at by G."

Flyers coach Dave Hakstol said Gostisbehere had a "natural moxie up there and playmaking ability."

Eye-opening stat

The Flyers entered Tuesday with a 5-2-2 record when Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, a fourth-line center and penalty-killer, was in the lineup. They were 1-6-1 without him.

"No coincidence," Hakstol said. "He's a big part of our group. He's a guy who brings energy to everything he does, whether it's walking into the rink, or in the locker room, or out on the ice. He plays a very important role for us - maybe not a spotlight role in people's eyes, but a very important role for our team."

Breakaways

Retired former Flyer Simon Gagne was honored before the game. In franchise history, he had the fourth most points (535) and goals (264) among left wingers, behind only Bill Barber, Brian Propp, and John LeClair . . . . Defenseman Radko Gudas began the night fourth in the NHL with 77 hits. . . . Defenseman Evgeny Medvedev was a healthy scratch for the second straight game.
