Flyers Voracek, Giroux named all-stars

Flyers linemates Jake Voracek, who leads the NHL with 50 points, and Claude Giroux were named to the league's all-star team Saturday.

The game will be played Jan. 25 in Columbus, Ohio, where Voracek spent the first three seasons of his career. He was dealt to the Flyers in 2011 for Jeff Carter and a first-round draft pick that produced Sean Couturier and a third-rounder that turned out to be Nick Cousins.

Voracek, a 25-year-old right winger, will be making his first appearance in an All-Star Game. Giroux was an all-star in 2011 and 2012.

There was no All-Star Game in 2013 because of the lockout or last year because of the Olympics.

Voracek, who has 16 goals and a league-high 34 assists, called it a "dream come true" but said it was "bittersweet" because of the Flyers' 3-1 loss to Boston earlier Saturday.

Giroux, a diminutive center who turns 27 on Monday, went into Saturday night's action third in the league with 46 points - 14 goals and 32 assists.

"It's a fun event. The NHL always does a good job for the fans and for us as players," Giroux said. "They treat us very well."

Before the announcement was made, Giroux poked fun at his good friend, Voracek.

"I hope Jake doesn't make it," he said.

Voracek was selected seventh overall in the 2007 draft. Giroux was chosen 22d overall in 2006.
