10 things you should know about the Devils

AFTER A LONG wait, the Flyers will continue their push for their first Stanley Cup in 37 years against the New Jersey Devils in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

With that, here are 10 things to know about the Flyers' next opponent:

1. Adam Henrique, a Calder Trophy finalist for the league's Rookie of the Year, scored the first two playoff goals of his young career, including the double overtime game winner on Thursday night in Game 7 in South Florida. Henrique beat Jose Theodore through the five-hole just 3:47 into the second extra session. He is the second rookie ever to win a Game 7 in overtime.

2. The Flyers won the regular season series with New Jersey by a 3-2-1 margin. For the Devils, though, that's an even split (3-3-0), courtesy of a shootout win.

3. The Devils have a pair of lethal scorers in Ilya Kovalchuk and Patrik Elias. Kovalchuk, the $100 million man, had 37 goals and 46 assists for 83 points - his best season as a Devil. Elias, the longtime Devil, posted 78 points in 81 games. Zach Parise, the soon-to-be free agent, was consistent with 31 goals and 38 assists in all 82 games.

4. Devils legend Martin Brodeur will turn 40 years old during the second round. Brodeur collected 31 wins in the regular season with a 2.41 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage. He won't, however, be the oldest player in the series. The Flyers have their own 40-year-old future Hall of Famer in Jaromir Jagr.

5. This is the Flyers' fifth playoff meeting with their division rivals in franchise history. The Flyers won the last matchup, 4-1, in the first round in 2010 on their way to the Stanley Cup final.

6. On Thursday night, New Jersey finally broke an 0-9 streak in the game following a playoff win. On Wednesday night, the Devils broke a 0-5 skid in elimination games.

7. Scott Hartnell, Wayne Simmonds, Anaheim's Corey Perry, Boston's Milan Lucic and New Jersey's David Clarkson are the only five players in the NHL to post at least 25 goals and 100 penalty minutes this season. Clarkson netted 30.

8. New Jersey erased a 3-2 series deficit to advance to the second round, the first time they've made it out of the opening round since 2007.

9. Newark's Prudential Center, which opened in 2007, is exactly 91.4 miles up the New Jersey Turnpike from South Philadelphia's Wells Fargo Center. The Flyers and Devils are by far the NHL's closest geographical second round matchup.

10. The Devils have quite a few fresh faces on their blue line, including Marek Zidlicky and Peter Harrold. Zidlicky was acquired in a trade from Minnesota in late February and has made a huge contribution to the back-end.
