VETERAN FORWARD Michael Nylander will attend Flyers training camp on a tryout basis, the team said on its Twitter feed yesterday.

Nylander has not played in the NHL since the 2008-09 season, when he had nine goals and 24 assists in 72 games with Washington.

The Capitals signed the Stockholm native to a 4-year, $19.5 million deal that ended after last season. He has played 920 NHL games and has 209 goals and 470 assists. Nylander, who will turn 39 in October, has played for Hartford, Calgary, Tampa Bay, Chicago, Boston and the New York Rangers.

He was a teammate of new Flyers forward Jaromir Jagr with the Capitals and Rangers.

He played seven games last season with the AHL Rochester Americans before injuring a vertebra in his neck. The previous season, he spent 24 games with Grand Rapids, of the AHL, and also in Finland.

Rookie scrimmage set

The annual scrimmage that ends Flyers rookie camp has been moved to the Wells Fargo Center and will be played on Sept. 15 at 5 p.m. The Flyers will play the Washington Capitals.

The game will mark the conclusion of a rookie and prospect camp held before the Flyers begin training camp on Sept. 17.

The rookie game will be open to the public and tickets will be free. Information will be released at a later date on how fans can get tickets.

Prospects scheduled to participate in the camp and game include recently acquired center Brayden Schenn; 2011 eighth-overall pick Sean Couturier; fellow 2011 draft picks Nick Cousins, Colin Suellentrop, Marcel Noebels and Derek Mathers; as well as Jason Akeson, Oliver Lauridsen, Zac Rinaldo and Eric Wellwood.
