Flyers Notes

Kimmo Timonen was too disappointed to smile when told he had scored the 100th goal of his career Saturday in the Flyers' 5-3 loss at the Wells Fargo Center.

But if the day comes when he decides to watch it on replay, the veteran defenseman will like what he sees.

First of all, it came shorthanded - the fifth shorthanded goal of his career and fourth with the Flyers. Second, he looked like a natural goal-scorer, lifting the puck high over Buffalo goalie Ryan Miller.

"It would have been nice if we'd won the game," Timonen said. "I'm not a big stat guy, but I'm sure in two, three years when I retire it's going to be a nice memory. But I'd rather win these games than get those goals."

His goal came late in the second period and tied the score, 3-3.

The 35-year-old Timonen has played in 876 games.

Looking better

Kris Versteeg played just nine seconds on the power play, yet he scored the Flyers' first power-play goal in 15 attempts, or dating from Feb. 20, when Claude Giroux scored a power-play goal in the second period against the New York Rangers.

Even though Versteeg's was the first goal of the game, coach Peter Laviolette didn't put him back on the power-play unit.

Versteeg believes that getting right back on the ice to play the Rangers on Sunday at Madison Square Garden will benefit the Flyers.

"We can take the positive from the power-play goal," Versteeg said. "We can put this in the past, because we're playing the next day, and come out with a big effort."

Loose pucks

The last time the Flyers lost a game in regulation after leading by two goals after the first period was March 11, 2006. Buffalo also won that game, 6-5. . . . The Sabres blocked 29 shots, the most by a Flyers opponent this season. . . . Buffalo hasn't lost a road game in regulation since Feb. 4. The Sabres are 4-0-2 in their last six games. . . . The Flyers are 7-6-1 since the all-star break. . . . The Flyers assigned center Ben Holmstrom to the Adirondack Phantoms of the AHL. Holmstrom played 8 minutes, 6 seconds Thursday in his NHL debut and was credited with a team-high five hits.
