Syvret signs 1-year deal with Anaheim

Former Flyers defenseman Danny Syvret signed a 1-year, two-way contract yesterday to join the Anaheim Ducks.

Syvret, an unrestricted free agent, will earn $600,000 at the NHL level and $105,000 in the AHL. He also fielded offers from Montreal, Pittsburgh, Nashville and San Jose.

Syvret, 25, scored the Flyers' only goal in the Winter Classic at Fenway Park last Jan. 1. In 21 games with the Flyers last season, Syvret posted two goals and two assists before sustaining a knee injury in January that kept him out of the NHL for the rest of the year.

With the Ducks, Syvret is expected to battle for their sixth defensive spot, where he could play alongside another former Flyer, Luca Sbisa.

From last year's roster, Arron Asham, Lukas Krajicek, Ray Emery and Darroll Powe remain unsigned. Phantoms captain Jared Ross signed with Atlanta. Asham, an unrestricted free agent, wants to remain in the East and is still negotiating with the Flyers. Emery and Krajicek are unlikely to return to the NHL next season. Powe is a restricted free agent.

Currently, the Flyers have approximately $1 million in available cap space with 13 forwards, eight defensemen and two goalies on the roster.
