Jonathan Toews and Troy Brouwer scored power-play goals in a 3:31 span early in the third period last night, leading the Chicago Blackhawks to a 4-1 victory over the visiting Los Angeles Kings.

Toews had been out with a concussion since Vancouver's Willie Mitchell leveled him on Oct. 21. The Blackhawks lost three of six games without their captain, who had a team-high 34 goals last season.

Anze Kopitar scored his 14th goal for the Kings, tying injured Washington star Alex Ovechkin for the NHL lead.

Noteworthy

* Washington's Alex Ovechkin says he was joking when he told a reporter for Yahoo! that he could be out more than a month. Ovechkin said he would actually miss about a week with an unspecified injury that the team has called an upper-body problem.

He hasn't played since leaving a Nov. 1 game against Columbus after he was hurt in a scrum.

* Calgary forward Curtis Glencross was suspended three games by the league because of a high hit he put on Chris Drury of the New York Rangers during Saturday's game.

* Minnesota right wing Petr Sykora suffered a concussion in Saturday's win over Dallas and is out indefinitely.

* Buffalo forward Adam Mair has been placed on waivers, and teams have until noon today to put a claim on him. If he isn't claimed, the Sabres can keep him or send him and his $775,000 salary to their AHL affiliate.

* Pittsburgh president David Morehouse is recovering from a heart attack in a hospital in San Jose. A team spokesman said Morehouse became ill as the team was preparing to fly out of San Jose on Sunday, the morning after a loss to the Sharks.
