Ward hospitalized

Carolina Hurricanes goalie Cam Ward remained in an Ohio hospital after his left leg was cut by a skate, and he could miss up to four weeks, general manager Jim Rutherford said.

Ward was expected to remain in Columbus through yesterday and return to Raleigh, N.C., today for further evaluation by the team's head orthopedic doctor.

Ward did not fly home after the Hurricanes' 3-2 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night because of concerns about the stress of the flight on his injury.

He stretched to make a save while Blue Jackets forward Rick Nash skated through the crease in the first period, and it appeared that Nash or a defenseman nicked Ward's leg with a skate.

Hall inductees

Former Detroit Red Wing Steve Yzerman will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame today in Toronto. Former teammates Brett Hull and Luc Robitaille, Brian Leetch, and New Jersey Devils president Lou Lamoriello also will be inducted. Yzerman, a captain for an NHL-record 20 seasons, retired in 2006 with 1,755 points.

Player out of hospital

Minor-league defenseman Ben Fanelli is continuing his recovery from skull and facial fractures after being released from a hospital in Kitchener, Ontario, last Friday.

The 16-year-old Kitchener Rangers defenseman was injured when he was boarded by Erie Otters forward Michael Liambas during an Ontario Hockey League game Oct. 30.
