Witt scores two goals as Islanders win fourth straight
Witt, a defenseman in his 14th NHL season, scored his first two goals of the season in the second period. He has netted only 25 in his 862-game career and had gone 92 contests since his previous goal on Jan. 22, 2008, at Carolina.
New York lost its first six games of the season (0-3-3) but has gone 5-1-2 since to get into shouting range of the rest of the Atlantic Division. Former Edmonton goalie Dwayne Roloson had 22 saves to improve to 4-0-1 in his past five starts.
Weight, 38, New York's captain, helped set up rookie John Tavares' first-period goal that lifted the Islanders into a 1-1 tie and earned another assist on Witt's second goal that made the score 3-1.
In another game:
* At Phoenix, Drew Doughty scored the go-ahead goal with 4:51 remaining and the Los Angels Kings rallied to beat the Coyotes, 5-3.
Noteworthy
* The Washington Capitals say Alex Ovechkin is "week-to-week" with an "upper-body strain" suffered during Sunday's overtime loss to Columbus. Ovechkin has missed only two games due to injury since coming to the NHL in 2005.
* Anaheim defenseman James Wisniewski was suspended for two games after hitting Phoenix' Shane Doan in the forehead with an arm during Saturday's game.
* The Phoenix Coyotes' 6-month journey through U.S. Bankruptcy Court has come to an end with Judge Redfield T. Baum signing an order yesterday approving the sale of the team to the NHL. The league is expected in turn to sell the franchise to new ownership that will keep the team in Arizona.
