Coyotes to league?

Phoenix Coyotes owner Jerry Moyes has agreed to sell the bankrupt franchise to the NHL.

The agreement, which still needs the approval of Judge Redfield T. Baum, was announced in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Phoenix yesterday.

Former coach Wayne Gretzky, who has a $22.5 million claim in the case, has not agreed to the deal.

Deputy commissioner Bill Daly said that once the deal closes, the league will immediately look to sell the team, preferably to an owner who will keep the club in Arizona.

Sbisa sent down

Anaheim reassigned 19-year-old defenseman Luca Sbisa to his junior team in Lethbridge, Alberta, preventing him from returning to the NHL this season.

The Ducks acquired Sbisa from the Flyers in the off-season trade for Chris Pronger. Sbisa had no points and a minus-1 rating in eight games.

Injuries

New Jersey defenseman Paul Martin (broken left arm) and left wing Jay Pandolfo (shoulder injury) will be sidelined four to six weeks after being hurt against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday. . . . Atlanta Thrashers star Ilya Kovalchuk - second in the league with nine goals - is expected to miss four weeks with a broken bone in his right foot. . . . Colorado placed Darcy Tucker on the injured list three days after he suffered a concussion on a check by Carolina's Tuomo Ruutu. . . . St. Louis Blues forward D.J. King will miss eight to 10 weeks with a fracture and dislocation of his right hand.
