What to expect: Betts does all of the little things right. He is a fine skater, an excellent penalty killer and a productive face-off man, fulfilling roles the Flyers will definitely need.

Danny Briere

What to expect: A better and healthier '09-10 campaign. Briere could net 80 points.

What to expect: Van Riemsdyk to play top-nine minutes and be a huge presence around the net.

What to expect: Bourdon is a relative unknown, having never appeared in a preseason game. He was the captain of his junior team and top d-man in the QMJHL last year.

Matt Carle

What to expect: Carle is the Flyers' most underrated defenseman. Can do everything: penalty kill, power play and move the puck.

What to expect: Coburn to rebound from a disappointing season last year and be the monster he was 2 years ago.

What to expect: Parent will round out the Flyers' back end on a pair with Danny Syvret.

Chris Pronger

What to expect: Pronger to live up to the billing that brought him here with a 7-year, $35 million extension. He is a true No. 1 defenseman on the ice and in the locker room.

Danny Syvret

Hometown: Millgrove, Ontario

What to expect: Syvret to contribute speed and puck handling to the Flyers' defense. He notched 57 points in 72 games last year with the Phantoms.

Kimmo Timonen

Hometown: Kuopio, Finland

What to expect: Timonen has been out of view since Pronger arrived but the two will combine to be a force on the power play.

Ole-Kristian Tollefsen

What to expect: If he can stay healthy, Tollefsen is a hammer on the blue line. Currently the seventh defenseman and could see limited time.

What to expect: Backlund will only be here for a short time as Emery's backup until Boucher is healthy, but probably won't see much action.

What to expect: Boucher had a rough preseason but should round into form if he can get healthy and stay that way.

Ray Emery

What to expect: Emery to make GM Paul Holmgren look brilliant as he will be the Flyers' MVP.
