The Flyers and Boston Bruins will be on the big stage New Year's Day and that stage is Fenway Park.

The NHL announced yesterday that the Flyers will participate in the league's third-annual Winter Classic by playing the Bruins at the home of baseball's Boston Red Sox.

"It will be one of the most memorable events in Flyers history," said Peter Luukko, president and chief operating officer for Comcast-Spectacor, the Flyers parent company.

On Jan. 1 of this year, about 40,000 fans watched the Detroit Red Wings and the Chicago Blackhawks play at Wrigley field. In 2008, an NHL-record crowd of 71,217 at Ralph Wilson Stadium watched the host Buffalo Sabres play the Pittsburgh Penguins.
