The Flyers announced yesterday that John Paddock has been named assistant general manager, and Jeff Reese has been named the team's goaltending coach.

Paddock, 55, who joins Barry Hanrahan as assistant general manager, spent last season as the head coach of the Phantoms of the American Hockey League.

He has served as a head coach in the AHL for six organizations and was a head coach in the National Hockey League for parts of five seasons with Winnipeg and Ottawa.

He compiled a record of 142-161-43 in the NHL and served as assistant general manager of the Flyers (1989-90) and Jets (1995-97).

"In addition to helping with the day-to-day operation of our team, John will oversee the Phantoms in Glens Falls," said Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren. "I'm excited to have John. He is a very good hockey man. He has been a general manager and a head coach in the NHL, and has done a lot of things in the league. His experience and expertise is going to bring a lot to the table for the Flyers."

Paddock, who played in 87 NHL regular-season games over parts of five seasons with the Washington Capitals (1975-76), Flyers (1976-77, 1979-80 and 1982-83), and Quebec Nordiques (1980-81), is the AHL's all-time leader in Calder Cup playoff victories with 82, and in playoff games coached with 149.

Reese, 43, replaces Reggie Lemelin, who was with the team for 14 seasons.

Reese spent the last eight seasons with the Tampa Bay Lightning, where he worked with goaltenders, as well as assisting in the assessment of amateur goalies for the NHL entry draft.
