The price the Flyers paid for defenseman Chris Pronger was high - two players and two first-round draft picks in a draft-day trade with Anaheim.

The deal would be sweeter for the Flyers if a contract extension could be worked out. At a news conference today at the team's practice facility in Voorhees, N.J., Pronger said he is willing to discuss such a extension.

Pronger, 34, is in the final year of his contract. He is a Stanley Cup winner, as a member of the Ducks in 2007. He is believed to be a key element to the Flyers' defense, with his physical presence and offensive prowess.

Pronger said he is hopeful a new deal can be struck before the start of the season.
