Bryzgalov moving forward after frustrating loss

POSTED: Friday, March 8, 2013, 2:31 PM

Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov is claiming to have a short memory. The day after being pulled from goal in the second period of Thursday’s 5-4 loss to the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins, Bryzgalov had a simple message after Friday’s short but intense practice.

When asked if he were upset at being pulled with 4 minutes and 13 seconds left in the second period after Pittsburgh’s Tyler Kennedy tied the score at 4, Bryzgalov wasn’t totally clear. He did say how frustrating it was to squander a 4-1 lead.

“We kind of lost control of the game,” he said.

In the second period the Penguins came back by outscoring the Flyers 3-0.

“Maybe the team relaxed and felt like maybe the game was in the pocket but we forget who we were playing, the Pittsburgh Penguins," Bryzgalov said.

As the Flyers prepare for Saturday afternoon’s game in Boston, Bryzgalov said the team has no choice but to get over such a frustrating loss.

“You got to forget and move forward and prepare yourself for the game against Boston,” he said. “It’s going to be another top-dog team.”

The Bruins are 15-3-3.

And then Bryzgalov turned philosophical in his own unique way.

“You have to stay positive and cope and prepare yourself for a better day,” he said. “The sun will come up.”

Bryzgalov continued his sunny outlook.

“Everybody is healthy, everything  is good and you try to win the next game and try to prepare yourself. “It’s not the end of the world.”

Try telling that to coach Peter Laviolette.

“That second period cost us two points and ultimately you have to make a response for that,” Flyers coach Peter Laviolette said. “You have to go into Boston and look to right the wrong and that is what we aim to do.”

Just the fact that he said "it's not the end of the world" indicates the magnitude of that loss. It's not just a game, there is more going on that letting a game slip away. Lavi gotta go plain and simple. It may not be the end of the world but it certainly looks like the end of the season when you can't hold a 4-1 score on home ice and can't stay at .500 for more than a day. They'll win more games, but this team is really going nowhere this year. The only good thing that came from that game was it showed how pathetic the Penqueens are so they most likely won't be winning the cup this year either.

And another thing to educate you hypocrites... Look at today's comments from Hartnell as he explains they didn't do enough of the extra curricular activities after the play during the Pens game.... Gee, I wonder what he means by that? You call the Pens dirty, but every team will try to get the Pens off their game with "extra curricular" activities because quite frankly they can't beat them with skill... So, Sid and the boys push back... But, perhaps they should all just make you happy and tolerate the abuse by doing nothing....

Short memories in Philly. Your capt Giroux was suspended a game for a cheap, dirty hit on Zubrus in the playoffs less than 12 months ago.

So you're saying one aggressive play where he went over the line puts him in the same class as a player with a history of diving like a baby? He made one mistake in the heat of the moment, not at all the same

I didn't mention 87 and am not a fan of either PA team. Just pointing out a fact, and headhunting is inexcusable. Comment was about Giroux and nobody else.

Hey Scott Hairnets... Not a fan of either team? Let me be the first, then, to invite you into the light, and out of the darkness, to the better part of the state and become a Pens fan... Let's Go Pens !
