Flyers goaltending prospect Anthony Stolarz was poked in the chest late after stopping a shot in an OHL playoff game on Tuesday night - and he wasn't too happy about it.
NEW YORK - Flyers goaltending prospect Anthony Stolarz was poked in the chest late after stopping a shot in an OHL playoff game on Tuesday night - and he wasn't too happy about it.
After the whistle, Stolarz channeled his inner Ron Hextall and two-handed Windsor Spitfires leading scorer Josh Ho-Sang in the back of the head. Stolarz, 20, was suspended eight games yesterday by the OHL.
Stolarz' vicious slash could end up costing him valuable games in his development. His London Knights, coached by former NHL tough guy Dale Hunter, are the overwhelming OHL playoff favorite. If they were, however, to be knocked out before winning the OHL title, Stolarz' suspension could linger into the Memorial Cup - the Canadian major junior national title - which the Knights are hosting this season.
The Knights have a 3-0 lead in their first-round, best-of-seven series against Windsor.
Stolarz was drafted 45th overall by the Flyers in 2012. The Flyers were very much looking forward to Stolarz starting in his second straight Memorial Cup against the top Canadian junior players.
