KEY PLAYERS: Flyers captain Claude Giroux was named the NHL’s No. 1 star of the week Monday. Giroux had six points in victories over Montreal, Arizona and Vegas, helping to catapult the Flyers over the Devils and into sole possession of third place in the Metro Division of the Eastern Conference. Giroux has 18 goals and 46 assists this season. He is seven points behind scoring leader Nikita Kucherov (71). The Devils have been without goaltender Cory Schneider due to injury for the last eight games. They are expected to start 30-year-old Eddie Lack for the second game in a row in his stead. Acquired in a depth trade with Calgary on Dec.30, Lack took the loss in a 5-3 defeat to the Bruins on Sunday. With backup Keith Kinkaid in the net the night before against Columbus, the Devils were pounded, 6-1.
THINGS TO KNOW: The Devils were 0-for-7 on the power play in their 5-3 loss to the Bruins Sunday night and surrendered two shorthanded goals. They have lost four straight games and eight of their last 11. After handing Vegas only their fourth home loss this season Sunday night – the Flyers have won four straight and hold third place in the Metro Division by three points over the Devils.
HEAD TO HEAD: Including postseason, the Flyers are 129-124-18 all-time against New Jersey. They are 77-49-10 at home. This is the final matchup between the teams for the regular season. The Flyers won the first two matchups, but the Devils prevailed 4-3 in their most recent game on Feb. 1 in Newark.
