Eagles waive WR Dorial Green-Beckham, sign QB Dane Evans

The Philadelphia Eagles waived wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham after just one season with the team.

The Eagles released Dorial Green-Beckham on Friday, ending the experiment with the underachieving wide receiver after only one season.

They signed quarterback Dane Evans to a three-year contract to take his roster spot.

Green-Beckham, 24, joined the Eagles last summer in a training-camp trade with the Tennessee Titans for offensive tackle Dennis Kelly. The 2015 second-round pick offered potential in a 6-foot-5, 237-pound frame, but he could not become a consistent contributor for the Eagles last season despite playing 57 percent of the offensive snaps. Green-Beckham finished with 36 catches for 392 yards and two touchdowns.

The Eagles are the second team to give up on Green-Beckham in as many years, a revealing reality for the former top prep recruit who was dismissed from Missouri’s football team in college.

He was usurped on the depth chart after the Eagles signed Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith this offseason. They also drafted Mack Hollins and Shelton Gibson. That’s why it was not a surprise that the team moved on from Green-Beckham, although it was notable that the Eagles made the decision even before training camp started in late July. The Eagles’ top receivers are expected to be Jeffery, Jordan Matthews, Smith, Nelson Agholor, and Hollins.

By signing Evans, the Eagles have four quarterbacks on the roster. Evans, 23, is a rookie from Tulsa who participated this offseason as a tryout player. He joins a depth chart that also includes starter Carson Wentz, Nick Foles, and Matt McGloin.
