Eagles game-by-game predictions | Jeff McLane

Game 1 at Redskins

LOSS

The Eagles’ defensive front seven got tossed around by the Redskins’ offensive line last year. Can a refurbished D-line win enough battles?

Game 2 at Chiefs

LOSS

Andy Reid has assembled a stable of offensive playmakers. Will Jim Schwartz’s crew match up against Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill, and the like?

Game 3 vs. Giants

WIN

The Giants brought in new faces to take some of the receiving pressure off Odell Beckham Jr. But the offensive line is still a weak link.

Game 4 at Chargers

LOSS

Lane Johnson might be at right tackle, but he’s getting paid like a premier left tackle. He’ll have to earn his keep against Joey Bosa, who rushes from the left.

Game 5 vs. Cardinals

WIN

The Cardinals are giving it another go with the aging Carson Palmer. Stopping multi-threat running back David Johnson, though, will be the key for the Eagles.

Game 6 at Panthers

LOSS

The Eagles will be on the road for the fourth time in their first six games – this time on a short week. Will they see the 2015 Cam Newton or the 2016 version?

Game 7 vs. Redskins

WIN

If my earlier prediction is correct, the Eagles will have lost six straight against Washington heading into this meeting. Something’s gotta give.

Game 8 vs. 49ers

WIN

If the Birds can’t beat the Brian Hoyer-led, rebuilding 49ers, then they might have big long-term problems.

Game 9 vs. Broncos

WIN

Two years off their Super Bowl, the Broncos haven’t solved their quarterback problem. Trevor Siemian enters the season with the reins.

Game 10 at Cowboys

LOSS

Ezekiel Elliott is slated to come off his suspension well before this date, but could pending litigation push it back further?

Game 11 vs. Bears

WIN

Could Chicago have rookie Mitch Trubisky starting at quarterback by this point? With Mike Glennon ahead of him, it’s possible.

Game 12 at Seahawks

LOSS

The Revenge of Marcus Smith game. OK, so the former Eagles defensive end isn’t likely to have an impact, but the rest of the Seahawks’ vaunted defense should.

Game 13 at Rams

WIN

The Eagles will spend the week before this game practicing in Orange County. They’ll get to stack Carson Wentz up against fellow 2016 draftee Jared Goff.

Game 14 at Giants

LOSS

How will the comparisons between Doug Pederson and Ben McAdoo – finalists for the Eagles’ head job two years ago – look at this point?

Game 15 vs. Raiders

LOSS

Oakland lost Derek Carr in the penultimate game of last season, and it doomed their postseason hopes. He could be the difference on Christmas night.

Game 16 vs. Cowboys

WIN

The Eagles and Cowboys were teams on polar sides by the time of last season’s finale. Was there that much disparity? This season should tell.
