What's next in draft for Eagles?
Paul Domowitch
Having traded up to select defensive tackle Fletcher Cox in the first round, the Eagles can now look ahead to Rounds 2 and 3 on Friday.
The Birds have three picks: They own the 14th and 19th selections in the second round and the 26th pick in Round 3.
The fact that they have an extra second-round selection – courtesy of last summer’s Kevin Kolb trade with the Cardinals – gives them some ammunition to move up in the second round if there is someone they specifically want.
If the first round is any indication, expect some deals. There were 19 deals made in the first round, which the NFL says is the most since 1970.
While the Eagles have no crying needs, there are some things they would like to come out of this draft with, including a cornerback who can play in the slot, an offensive tackle that can provide depth behind starters Demetress Bell and Todd Herremans, a running back to complement LeSean McCoy, and perhaps their quarterback of the future to succeed 32-year-old Michael Vick.
The Eagles and the rest of the league will get to sleep on Round 1 and get back at it Friday at 7 p.m.
"I think it’s good because you’re able to take a deep breath," Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said. "You’re able to pause and take a look at what’s out there. Have some detailed conversations on the things that have changed, as opposed to being in the moment. We talk a lot about calm thoughts in calm times. That’s what it allows us to do."

" the Eagles have no crying needs" Really? ...........Safety? Outside linebacker? I wholeheartedly disagree with that statement. PhileaglyersFan
@PhileaglyersFan:
I couldn't agree more. I don't know why the statement "the Eagles have no crying needs" (and similar ones like it) has been thrown around so much the past few months. LB! LB! LB! That's one crying need for sure. Along with safety, big WR, and KR too! Penfold18- agree with you on LB and safety. Problem is the safety class is weak. The good news is that Courtney Upshaw is still available. He should be one of the round 2 picks.
coloradoeagle - Upshaw is at the top of everyone's "suprised he's still available" lists. I doubt he makes it to the Eagles pick.

In my opinion, there are no safeties available that are worth a 2nd round pick. I think they should continue with their best player available approach.... MrMiles1- I concur. We don't need another young unknown at safety.
If we do draft a safety, he probably won't see much time this season and all the same people will be demanding that we replace him with another draft pick next year. How about we see how Allen and Jarrett work out? bc3030
No cryinig need: LB, CB (I'm not sure about DRC) and a Red Zone Target (WR or TE) Davonte David LB orJanoris Jenkins CB would be my first targets. soldierboy
Best player available, regardless of position. I'd be happy with that for the rest of the draft. Commish
I'm hoping the Eagles can either draft olb-Zach Brown, cb-Josh Robinson, or wr-Ashlon Jeffrey with the (2) 2nd round picks. In the 3rd round, they can hopefully get either rb-LaMichael James or Bernard Pierce, or de-Vinny Curry. Good luck! Go Flyers!!! uscwee
" the Eagles have no crying needs". An 8-8 team has needs. What flavor kool aid are you drinking. Lets start at linebacker, they need at least 2 more with talent. Not what they have now. watsonmr
No safeties please. That scrub Harrison Smith went in the first round. We would be taking 4th round talent in the second round, and isn't that what we did last year? dragoon6
Cox, if he produces like he's expected will relieve the pressure on the Linebackers. A good defensive tackle is a mediocre linebackers best friend.
The Eagles need a big, fast receiver who can come in and compete with Maclin and Avant right away for playing time. Someone that provides themselves to be a huge target between the numbers from the slot, and capable of going down field and get separation.
The Best Corner back on the board, a cover man that can come and challenge for the dime, hold his own and possibly be available to return punts.
We can find a Tackle/Guard combination Saturday, but there is talent on the board, and there are still "IMPACT" players to choose from.
Two (2) Second Round picks should not be considered trade bait, we can hit gold Friday, and do well with our (3rd) Third Round pick on Saturday.
Great Job, we can ever pursue Upshaw, the Alabama Linebacker, but we should be an improved team with Cox in the rotation. Hell, it scares me we still have a chance for Vinnny Curry, from Marshall and Devon Still from Penn State. Dexter- Excellent, like this, still want a tall pocket passer with a big arm. Will never win a sb with a running qb! No one has yet.

Don't need or want Upshaw - he's a 3-4 rush LB that operate in space, which is what the Eagles need from any OLB they put on the field. I think Brown is a better fit for the Eagles than David. It's unclear if David will be able to compensate for his lack of size at the pro level, however, Brown is slightly larger, stronger and faster, and seems to have drawbacks that are coachable.
