Mock draft: Bears to select Dennis

Temple offensive lineman Derek Dennis could go earlier in the NFL Draft than projected.

Dennis was first seen as a middle-round pick, but dropped to a likely late-round or free-agent acquisition earlier this week in some mock drafts.

Now, the 6-foot-3, 315-pounder is once again considered a mid-round draft pick.

In the Fox Sports seven-round mock draft compiled by Peter Schrager, Dennis is projected to be drafted by the Chicago Bears in the fourth round. The others are running back Bernard Pierce (Tampa Bay Buccaneers, fifth round) and tight end/fullback Evan Rodriguez (Cleveland Browns, seventh round).

The Bears are joined by the Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Seattle Seahawks, Carolina Panthers, Green Bay Packers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Houston Texans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Oakland Raiders as some of the teams showing interest in Dennis.

However, the Bears are showing the most interest.

“I’ve been contacted by about 15 teams,” Dennis said. “They are asking for my draft day [phone] numbers and where I’m going to be, stuff like that.

“There seems to be a nice number of teams that are interested in me.”

The 23-year-old, who graduated from Temple with a broadcast degree in December, started all 13 of last season’s game at left guard. However, Dennis has also played center and tackle during his college career.
