Draft mockery: The Eagles will take ...

Here's a little test that shows how unpredictable the NFL draft can be. Which year did mock drafts mention more names? This year, when the Eagles have two first-round picks? Or last year, when they had just one? Surprisingly, last year brought a much longer list.

Here's a little test that shows how unpredictable the NFL draft can be.

Which year did mock drafts mention more names? This year, when the Eagles have two first-round picks? Or last year, when they had just one?

Surprisingly, last year brought a much longer list.

This year, either these guys are copying each other's work, or only a few guys fit the Birds' more obvious needs.

Right now, nobody knows for sure, of course, who the Eagles will take -- not even Andy Reid. After all, teams don't start signing other teams' free agents or making trades till Friday.

And last year, of course, everybody was wrong! The Eagles traded their pick for Carolina's this year, which became the 28th overall, joining the Eagles own 21st pick.

So who will the Eagles grab with their two picks on April 24?

That's what Philly fans don't want to wait to know. Below are some names that have surfaced so far.

Only mocks updated since the Super Bowl are included.

Running back Chris "Beanie" Wells, Ohio State. 6-foot-1, 237 pounds. Lots of people see Wells becoming a Bird. "The Eagles pounce all over Wells if he's available here," at No. 21. "Even if Correll Buckhalter is brought back," says nfldraftblitz.com. "Extraordinary combination of size and natural running ability," says NFLDraftScout.com, whose Rob Rang projected Wells at 21 for CBS Sportsline. So did Mel Kiper of ESPN, who points out, however, questions about Wells' competitiveness and durability. Also projected at 21 by Inside the Eagles,  Steve Wyche of NFL.com, footballsfuture.com and draftcountdown.com, and at 28 by Philly-based draftdaddy.com and NFLDraftScout.com's Chad Reuter for CBS Sportsline.

Tight end Brandon Pettigrew, Oklahoma State, 6-foot-5, 257 pounds. Quite a chorus of votes for this choice. "Excellent blocking skills, good athleticism and soft hands ... only tight end in the 2009 class worthy of a first-round pick," says Scouts Inc.'s Todd McShay in projecting the TE at No. 21 for ESPN. "Even though Pettigrew had problems off the field, there's no denying his talent on the field," says Scout.com's Chris Steuber, slotting the TE at 21 for Fox Sports. "Elite senior tight end prospect," says NFLDraftScout.com, whose Rob Rang slotted the TE at 28 for CBS Sportsline. Also picked at 21 by About.com's James Adler, draftdaddy.com and draftking.com. Another vote for 28: nflmockdraftaces.com.

Offensive tackle Eben Britton, Arizona.  6-foot-6, 310 pounds. "Andy Reid loves to surround himself with people as big as he is. ... Eben Britton is about 310, but once he gets done eating a few dinners with Big Red, he'll be at the desired 320," says Walter Cherepinsky of WalterFootball.com, projecting the OT at 21. Draftking.com also slots him at 21, pointing out, however, that several better O-linemen should be gone by then. Goes to Birds at 28, says Michael Abromowitz of thefootballexpert.com,  Inside the Eagles, footballsfuture.com, and nflmockdraftaces.com. Agreeing is draftcountdown.com, which opines: "Not a sure-fire left tackle at the next level," but he could play the right side.

Offensive tackle Michael Oher, Mississippi. 6-foot-5, 309 pounds. "Physically gifted " enough to be "a standout," but  "might not be able to understand the complexities of his position," according to NFLDraftScout.com, whose Chad Reuter projected Oher at 21 for CBS Sportsline. Mel Kiper of ESPN, who projects Oher at 28, points out that a bestseller, The Blind Side: The Evolution of a Game, tells how Oher had little schooling and was raised with 12 siblings by a drug-addicted mother. Also projected at 28 by Steve Wyche of NFL.com.

Running back Knowshon Moreno, Georgia. 5-foot-11, 208 pounds. "Eye-popping leaps and jukes" remind some of Barry Sanders, but lacks bulk and tends to celebrate too much, according to NFLDraftScouts.com. Projected at 21 by Pete Prisco of  CBS Sportsline and Michael Abromowitz of thefootballexpert.com. "Best all-around running back prospect in the 2009 class," says Scout Inc.'s Todd McShay for ESPN, projecting Moreno at 28.

Guard Duke Robinson, Oklahoma,  6-foot-5, 335 pounds. "Getting a monstrous guard like Duke Robinson would allow Todd Herremans to bounce outside to left tackle," says says Walter Cherepinsky of WalterFootball.com, projecting Robinson at 21. Guard's a need because of Shawn Andrews' iffy back, says  nfldraftblitz.com, in projecting the pick at 28.

Defensive end Tyson Jackson, LSU. 6-foot-4, 295 pounds. "Flashes the ability to shed blocks and make the play," but "marginal speed to close," according to NFLDraftScouts.com. Projected 28th by Pete Prisco of  CBS Sportsline.

Defensive end Michael Johnson, Georgia Tech. 6-foot-7, 255 pounds. "Mostly a situational pass rusher up until his senior season" but "phenomenal athletic ability" lands him in first round, says About.com's James Adler in projecting pick 28.

Running back LeSean McCoy, Pittsburgh. 5-foot-10, 210 pounds. "Perfect successor" to Brian Westbrook, says Scout.com's Chris Steuber for Fox Sports in projecting the back at 21.

Linebacker Brian Cushing, USC. 6-foot-3, 245 pounds. Goes to Birds at 21, says NFLdraftdog.com. Leading the Trojans in tackles for losses is great, but a linebacker? Eagles have four or five young ones already. Sorry Draft Dog, but you're barking up the wrong tree with that pick.

Tight end Jared Cook, South Carolina. 6-foot-5, 244 pounds. "Needs to work on his blocking, but was the fastest tight end at the combine," says  says NFLdraftdog.com. A bit of a head-scratcher as a possible pick 28, since Eagles have Brent Celek, whose receiving skills are a lot more impressive than his blocking.
