One of the most exciting players to wear Eagles green has been released by the team. Running back Brian Westbrook, who was due $7.25 million salary next season, was let go now to "allow Brian an opportunity to hook on with another football team, if he chooses to do that," said Eagles coach Andy Reid in a news conference. Reid called it a "tough day for the Philadelphia Eagles" and "not an easy thing to do, for us or for Brian." He said he told Westbrook the team was "going in a different direction." Westbrook, out of Villanova, played eight seasons for the Birds.
