"That is what teams can't believe I can do," Jones said yesterday in Saline, Mich., after doing a shuttle run in 4.3 seconds.
Soon, NFL teams will get a chance to witness what seems like a remarkable comeback from ACL surgery. Jones, a product of Cardinal O'Hara High, has a workout scheduled for scouts on June 28 in Saline.
In a town about 40 miles west of Detroit, the former Lions running back has been rehabbing his surgically repaired knee.
"I've never worked out like this and I feel great," Jones said.
Dr. James Andrews performed the surgery on Jones' right knee in January and told him it would take up to 10 months to get back on the field.
Jones, 25, believes he will be able to go through non-contact drills with the team that signs him during training camp next month.
"I honestly feel like I'm ready to play right now," he insisted.
The Lions cut their former first-round pick in March with 1 year left on his contract after he hurt his knee late last season.
* New York Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw is serving a 30-day jail sentence on a probation violation in southwest Virginia, his legal counsel said.
Charles A. Stacy said the underlying charge stems from an offense that occurred while Bradshaw, a native of Bluefield, was a juvenile.
* The Green Bay Packers have checked into the availability of Miami Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor, according to reports in Wisconsin. A source in South Florida told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that, despite Taylor's insistence earlier this month that he's willing to play in Miami in 2008, he has only pushed harder for a trade from the only team he has ever played for.
* The Chicago Bears and defensive tackle Tommie Harris, 25, have agreed on a 4-year extension through 2012 worth about $40 million, ESPN.com reported.
The deal, according to sources, includes $18 million in guarantees. *
