NFL Week 3 preview: Hands off Carson Wentz, odd motivation for Cardinals

If Andrew Luck throws for 424 yards, he'll become the second fastest to reach 20,000 in a career (72 games). He'll also give panic attacks to fans already on edge after the spell FitzMagic put on the secondary last week. By the way, Matthew Stafford (71 games) has the record. Colts rookie linebacker Darius Leonard had 18 tackles last week at Washington and forced the fumble that essentially clinched the game. The Eagles have won 12 in a row at home, not counting that meaningless loss to Dallas in Week 17 last year.

Plenty of drama in Pittsburgh with star wide receiver Antonio Brown taking an unauthorized personal day Monday. Boy, can't a guy take a day off? Between the lines, it's the Steelers defense that has been getting waxed. Through two games, it is 28th in points allowed, and it gave up 38 of the 45 points Jacksonville put on the Steelers in the playoff loss last year. Ryan Fitzpatrick joined Dan Marino (1984) and Billy Volek (2004) as the only quarterbacks in NFL history with 400 passing yards and four TDs in consecutive games. (Yeah, Billy Volek.) Marino had 340 yards and four TDs in that third game; Volek had 111 yards.

This game was off the board in Vegas for most of the week as Titans QB Marcus Mariota dealt with an injured right (throwing) hand. The Titans swept the Jags last year, including a 37-16 thumping in Jacksonville. Jags coach Doug Marrone had the same reaction to that wonderful one-handed catch Keelan Cole made last week against the Patriots. "I'm like everyone else. … Wow," the coach said. "But he has made those catches in training camp. He has done that before."

The Saints (8-11) and the Eagles (3-6) are the only teams Matt Ryan has a losing record against among those against which he's made more than five starts. Drew Brees had just three TD passes and two picks last year in the two meetings, each won by the home team. New Orleans, fifth in rushing last season, is dead last through Week 2 as running back Mark Ingram continues his four-game suspension.

Patrick Mahomes became the first quarterback with 10 touchdown passes through Week 2. He needs three to pass Peyton Manning (2013) for the most through Week 3. He might get that by halftime. This will be his first home game as Kansas City's starter.

Three of Cincinnati's top four running backs are hurt, most notably Joe Mixon. Giovani Bernard will do the heavy lifting. "I feel like people are freaking out, but my goodness, it's football," Bernard said. Love athletes who say "my goodness."

The Seahawks have lost five of six dating to last season. Their only victory was against Dallas in Week 16. Seattle won that game despite managing just 136 yards of offense.
