The Eagles will promote Mike Groh to offensive coordinator, a league source said Tuesday.

Groh, 46, was the Eagles' wide receivers coach last season. He replaces Frank Reich, who became the Indianapolis Colts' head coach.

Groh's promotion was first reported by ESPN.

Eagles coach Doug Pederson interviewed both Groh and running backs Duce Staley for the job, seemingly with the intention of making an internal hire. Pederson calls the offensive plays and the entire offensive coaching staff contributes to the game plan, so the Eagles' offensive coordinator job is different from others. But Groh will still carry significant responsibility as Pederson's top offensive assistant, just as Reich did with Pederson during the last two years.

Staley, a source said, will continue coaching running backs as well as add the title of assistant head coach.

The Eagles hired Groh last offseason to improve their wide receiver corps. Groh helped Nelson Agholor have a turnaround season and acclimate Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith to the offense.

Groh worked for the Los Angeles Rams and Chicago Bears before coming to the Eagles. He also coached at Alabama, Louisville, and Virginia in the college ranks. Groh was Virginia's offensive coordinator from 2006-08, when he worked under his father, Al Groh, who was the Cavaliers' head coach and the former head coach of the New York Jets.

More to come.
