The Eagles activated cornerback Sidney Jones to the 53-man roster on Saturday, and the Eagles' second-round pick is eligible to play on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys and in the postseason. He is expected to play against the Cowboys.

Jones tore his Achilles tendon during his University of Washington Pro Day in March, dropping him from the first round of April's draft. The Eagles selected him in the second round without assurances that he would play this season. They kept him on the non-football injury list and brought him back to practice three weeks ago for the first time this season.

The Eagles had until next week to make a decision about whether to activate Jones or place him on injured reserve. After they put linebacker Joe Walker on injured reserve on Friday, there was an open roster spot for Jones.

"The physicality of banging, of hitting and stuff, is a little bit of a concern, but health-wise he's doing well," coach Doug Pederson said Friday.

Jones hasn't played in a game since the University of Washington's bowl game on Dec. 31, 2016, so it will be one full year between games. But it's a potential boost to the Eagles secondary for the playoffs, considering Jones' prodigious talent at cornerback. He was considered a potential Day 1 starter before the injury and is expected to be a key part of the Eagles' future. He's now a part of the present, too.
