Eagles-Falcons: Key pregame statistics for playoff showdown | Paul Domowitch

A look at some of the more pertinent statistics and trends heading into today's divisional-round playoff game between the Eagles and Falcons:

— The Eagles slipped to eighth in third-down efficiency (41.7 percent) after converting just three of 25 third-down opportunities in their last two games.

— In the 10 quarters that Nick Foles has played since Carson Wentz got hurt, the Eagles have converted just eight of 35 third-down opportunities (22.9 percent). Six of those were against the Giants.

— Foles has a 61.6 passer rating on third down. He has completed just 11 of 27 third-down attempts and has averaged only 3.2 yards per attempt. Just five of his 27 third-down passes, or 18.5 percent, have resulted in first downs. Wentz had a league-best 123.6 third-down passer rating. Fifty percent of his third-down attempts (62 of 124) had produced first downs.

— Ninety-nine of the offense's 230 third-down situations have been eight yards or more. That's the 10th most third-and-longs in the NFL. But they managed to convert a league-best 33.3 percent of them.

— The Eagles finished third in third-down defense with a 32.2 opponent conversion rate. That's the defense's best third-down rate since 2008. Opponents had just a 65.7 passer rating against the Eagles on third down.

— Opponents converted just 10 of 65 third downs of eight yards or more (15.4 percent) against the Eagles. That was the fourth best third-and-long stop percentage in the league.

— Opponents have converted just seven of 15 third downs of one yard or less against the Eagles this season. Last year, they converted 14 of 18. Offensively, the Eagles are 18-for-22 on third-and-one.

— Nine of the defense's 19 interceptions came on third down. Only Baltimore had more third-down picks (10).

— Nelson Agholor led the Eagles in third-down receptions with 22. Fourteen resulted in first downs. Alshon Jeffery was targeted the most on third down – 42 times compared to 31 for Agholor. Jeffery had 19 third-down catches, 17 for first downs.

— The Eagles finished first in red-zone touchdown percentage (65.5) after finishing 24th last year. Their 55 red-zone opportunities are the league's fifth most, behind only the Patriots (70), Rams (69), Steelers (63) and Vikings (57).

— Tight end Zach Ertz had a team-high eight red-zone touchdown catches this season. Jeffery had seven. The Eagles had 10 players with at least one red-zone TD catch and five with two or more.

— The Eagles haven't thrown an interception or allowed a sack in the red zone this season. They had just one red-zone turnover – a fumble by Carson Wentz against Seattle in Week 13.

— The Eagles finished 20th in red-zone defense (55.3). They are just one of three playoff teams that had an opponent red-zone touchdown percentage higher than 55.0. The two others are the Rams (58.7) and Steelers (61.5).

— In the last five games, opponents have converted eight of 12 red-zone opportunities into touchdowns against the Eagles.

— The Eagles defense has forced just two red-zone turnovers, both interceptions. Jalen Mills had one against the Redskins in Week 1 and Malcolm Jenkins had the other against the Cowboys in Week 11. They had just three red-zone sacks.

— The Eagles finished 12th in run-play percentage (44.1). In their last five games, just 36.4 percent of their offensive plays were run plays. During their nine-game win streak, they had a 51.5 run-play percentage.

— The Eagles finished third in rushing (132.2 yards per game), but have averaged just 98.4 yards per game on the ground in their last five games. They had averaged 161.9 during their nine-game win streak.

— Jay Ajayi averaged 7.0 yards per carry in his first five games with the Eagles, but just 3.9 in his last two. Ajayi has averaged just 1.8 yards per carry on first down in his last two games (13-24).

— The Eagles as a team have averaged just 3.3 yards per carry on first down in the last five games. They had averaged 5.2 in the previous nine games.

— Despite finishing third in rushing, the Eagles had just nine rushing touchdowns this season. That was the ninth fewest in the league. LeGarrette Blount, who had a league-high 18 rushing touchdowns last year with the Patriots, had just two this season. The Eagles haven't had a rushing TD in their last six games.

— Jay Ajayi has averaged 7.0 yards per carry out of "11'' personnel (1RB, 1TE, 3WRs), and just 2.9 out of "12'' personnel (1RB, 2TEs, 2WRs).

— Opponents have averaged just 21.1 rushing attempts per game against the Eagles this season. That's the fewest in the league. Just two teams have run the ball more than 25 times against the Eagles – the Cowboys twice, in Week 11 (27) and again in Week 17 (32), and the Raiders in Week 16 (33).

— The Eagles held opponents to 3.5 yards per carry in their first 11 games. In the last five: 4.2.

— The Eagles allowed the second fewest rushing first downs (62) and the third fewest rushing touchdowns (7). They gave up the third fewest runs of 10 yards or more (36).

— The Eagles allowed just 40 pass plays of 20-plus yards, the fifth fewest in the NFL.

— The Falcons have averaged just 3.7 yards per carry in their last five games, including last week's playoff win over the Rams. In their final two regular-season games against Carolina and New Orleans, they averaged just 2.7 yards per carry. Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman have averaged a collective 2.8 yards per carry in the last three games.

— The Falcons are first in the NFL in third-down efficiency. They converted 44.7 percent of their third-down opportunities, even though they failed to convert more than two third-down opportunities in two of their last five games. They were 1-for-10 on third down in a 14-9 Week 14 loss to the Vikings and 2-for-13 in a 23-13 Week 16 loss to the Saints.

— A big reason for the Falcons' third-down success is the fact that they're averaging 6.35 yards per play on first down. That's the third best first-down rate in the league. But the Eagles are No. 1 in first-down defense, holding opponents to 4.26 yards per play.

— Of the Eagles' 1,073 offensive plays, 699, or 65.1 percent, were run with "11'' personnel (1RB, 1TE, 3WRs). In their last seven games, that that percentage was 71.9. They used "12'' personnel (1RB, 2TEs, 2WRs) just 18.7 percent in their last seven games.
