Wrapping Up McNabb Trade Week
Les Bowen
Some final thoughts from the week the Eagles traded Donovan McNabb:
*I expect Donovan to start out gangbusters with the Redskins. He doesn’t want to admit it, but the fans’ frustrations and his own frustrations were an anvil around his neck these past several seasons, really ever since the Jeff Garcia year, an unsettled situation that morphed into the drafting of Kevin Kolb. Don needed this change as much as the Eagles did.
You might have noticed the way he threw himself into the ‘Skins offseason conditioning program. He only participated in that here if he was rehabbing a serious injury from the season before. His batteries are recharged; Donovan’s first month of the season is going to be lights out. After that, the reality of the Redskins’ wifty o-line and the fact that he really isn’t quite what he was five years ago – especially in sensing and sidestepping pass rush pressure -- will have a leveling effect. But brace yourself for a slew of premature boy-the-Eagles-sure-screwed-up stories from the national media.
***
*If the Eagles do end up trading or releasing Michael Vick in the coming weeks, I would not be at all surprised to see Jeff Garcia return for a third stint in midnight green. I know he's tossed his helmet into the ring. Ideal guy to mentor Kolb.
***
*I don’t put much credence into that “blocking Sam Bradford going to Washington” business, as a reason why the Birds traded with the Redskins. It comes from other GMs theorizing what the Eagles might have been thinking. Big leap from there to “this must have been what happened.” In this internet age, lots of media folks are eager to be Bob Beamon, if it helps their “brand.”
What I think happened: There weren’t that many really good offers, as April rolled around. The Redskins’ bid was pretty good, and Donovan liked the idea of going there. Other considerations might have dovetailed, but those were the two elements driving the deal, along with the fact that the Birds had decided they absolutely, positively needed to move on. I’m not sure they were quite at that point earlier in the offseason.
Speaking of which, very interesting and potentially damning to see an Andy Reid ally like Mike Holmgren imply the Eagles could have gotten more earlier in the process, before some of the suitors made other QB arrangements, based on indications the Birds initially wanted more than a second-rounder this year and something for later. But again: If Kolb leads the Eagles to a Super Bowl title, nobody will care what they got for McNabb.

*Got a long, thoughtful email from a fan, contrasting Roy Kolb’s statements in my Thursday story with Sam McNabb’s talk this week of Donovan being resurrected on Easter, etc. The letter-writer felt Roy was a breath of fresh air.
I think Roy and Sam are good people. Both fathers did an excellent job raising their sons to be decent, responsible human beings. They are in different situations right now. If a time comes when the Eagles trade away Kevin Kolb, I doubt Roy will be any happier than Sam was.
In the toxic atmosphere that developed around Donovan here, Sam and Wilma took a fair amount of heat. I never thought they really deserved it. There is nothing obnoxious about appearing in a soup commerical, campaigning to raise funds to fight diabetes, or wanting to help young African-American quarterbacks; they are still a tiny minority in an NFL otherwise dominated by African-Americans. I think the McNabbs have always seen themselves as cultural warriors, and I think they mostly have fought the good fight.
That doesn’t mean they couldn’t be hard to take at times, such as with the Easter analogy. Sam delivered it to a national reporter Tuesday, after stiff-arming the Philadelphia media at the Redskins’ press conference introducing Donovan.
Covering the team, I didn’t find the McNabbs so overbearing – remember, I covered Eric Lindros’ entire career in Philadelphia, I know from overbearing. But I wish they could have been a little less tightly focused on fighting that cultural war, could have loosened up a little. (The same wish goes for their younger son.) It was frustrating that they weren't a little more discerning about who in the local media tried to be fair, and who just rode the tide of popular opinion. In their eyes, I think we were all the same malevolent, middle-aged white guy, intent on tearing down Donovan. They were not much for nuance. If somebody somewhere at your media outlet wrote or said or drew something they felt was a cheap shot, that was it for you. (In that sense, come to think of it, they WERE like the Lindros family.)
***
*Rich Hofmann already wrote this, but I really don’t see why the Eagles are going to be terrible this year, as some folks seem to assume. I don’t think the 2010 Kolb is going to be a huge step down from the 2009 McNabb. If the o-line and defensive secondary come together, I would expect a winning season. Not the Super Bowl, but a winning season. In the NFL, youthful talent might make you erratic, but it shouldn’t make you incompetent.
That same sense of relief I expect to buoy McNabb in Washington will echo here; I think that was really what DeSean Jackson was trying to say the other day. I don’t believe he necessarily wanted Donovan gone, but I know he wanted this uncertain mess to be settled, once and for all. Lots of people did, yours truly included.

*Maybe next week I can start thinking about the draft again?

If you are going to comment on the draft, then an in depth analysis of the current depth chart would be a nice way to begin your series of articles. The Reddgie
Donovan is better off in D.C. I live close in that area, and there are no Angelo Cataldis who will try to verbally attack him just to generate ratings. In fact, take Cataldi out of the equation and McNabb's time in Philly probably would have been a lot less turbulent. I wish that we could have included him in the trade. phink
Comment removed.- Don't discount Holmgren covering his own behind for getting Delhomme instead of McNabb. If he said the price he would have to have paid for McNabb was comparable to what the Redskins paid, he wouldn't have made too many Brown's fans happy. He already looks like he jumped the gun getting Delhomme. I mean, really, Delhomme? On purpose? How much worse could he have done by waiting?
Its time 4 a change! He will be 33 YEARS OLD and we got a 2nd round pick!NOT SO BAD! socalbirdsfan
The Eagles will be as bad as their 1998 record, with more blowout losses. When that happens, does Reid get fired? dowens1617
I find it interesting that you mentioned the cultural thing that the McNabbs could not get over. I always felt that their goal, although it was to win,was to make sure that Donovan would be the 2nd black quarterback to win a Super Bowl. That was more important to them, then say the team winning. They always seemed to fly under the radar with the racial thing, but it was definitely there.I just wanted the team to win, but there was somehow always too many distractions with teammates, out of place comments, and at times poor performance on the field, when clutch plays were needed. Now this chapter in Eagles history is over, and now its time to start fresh and move on. Oh, and I would like to see Garcia come back as the back up. watsonmr
I agree with Les that McNabb's parents probably took themselves too seriously in their struggle to see Donovan treated like an elite QB. Donovan may start well in DC, but he has to make a commitment to that team and to Shanahan. Have a season like Randall had in MN in 1998, and every "hater" will have egg on their faces. To me, Kolb HAS to win a Super Bowl; the Eagles feel he is better; he and Reid have to prove it. 76erfn
Hey it was never McNabb.Andy and his mommy & daddy kill this man. First Andy he took a great running QB from college and took the run from him and made him the joke of the NFL. As for his parents he a big boy and will do better with out opening your mouths. I hope he runs all the time in DC. andy a running QB makes the defence works harderand being only a quterback coach you should know that you are the bigest joke of a head coach in the nfl. But with Kolb knowing the west cast offence from college it might work. and well i will be eating my words. But andy you will always be what you were in Green Bay. I M Jim
he had his chance to separate himself from the Van Brocklin's (1960 MVP)-Jaworski's (1980 MVP)-Cunningham's (1988-90 MVP) of the franchise but couldn't get it done,he could never rise to the occasion..KK will be the QB that gets this team to the Promise Land..good luck with the Deadskins LOL.wolf. wolf 4
Comment removed.- He's a Redskin now- what a rascist name by the way. What if their was a team called the Denver Darkies? At some point, we need to address this. Anyway he is the enemy now and I hope our defense lays him out. Corey301
McNabb will be the Second BLACK QB to win the Superbowl. How ironic it'll be with the REDSKINS!..Hail to the Redskins!..Hail Victory! Warpath85nIraq
Les, brilliant summary, makes a lot of sense. JBP
no way redskins win superbowl, his performance in big games has diminished.eagles will win division this yr.so stop your whinning, your all beginning to sound like donny mac.its over, time for kolb get used to it. merc22
Les thank for setting up the right expectations for Kolb and Eagles in 2010. Winning 11-5 team can not go to a loosing season with a 4th year QB. If they do, it will imply a mistake and if it continues for another year, a blunder has been made. Seed
Les: It would be very interesting to know if any other NFL HOF had similar background, HS and 2nd tier College career, like Kolb. Kolb's record of zero big wins at any stage of his career thus far make him part of a unique group of Romo and few other. Romo had no career as successfull QB until Cows groomed him and turned him into a fairly good QB at later part of his life (from NFL age perspective). I am aware of Warner, Young, Mooon, but they had success in early age and they could not find the right team in NFL until later in playing life. But Kolb, Romo, etc came into NFL with Zero success and now they are carrying a heavy load in NFL. Seed
First two predictions are good. Expect McNabb to come out great, then level off a little bit, but have a good season considering his line. If Vick is traded, Garcia is a real possibility. Not too interested in the elder Kolbs or McNabbs. Eagles won't be terrible, but the OL will probably be average and the D may be average, and that adds up to something between 6-10 and 10-6. Yeah, we have great skill players on offense. No one knows better than Andy Reid, who thought last year he'd set up a great OL, that skill players alone won't cut it. Injuries again will be a major factor, but even if healthy the remnants of 2009 injuries for guys like Stewart Bradley and Stacey Andrews will limit the Eagles. We won't be all that good. 2011, maybe. tacklinjoe- Excuse me, You say in this article..."There is nothing wrong with wanting to help young African-American quarterbacks; they are still a tiny minority in an NFL otherwise dominated by African-Americans". There is something very wrong with the notion of applying racial bias to these situations. There can never be real racial equality until people like you and others in the white media stop believing that any sort of racial bias is acceptable.
Les, thanks for the insight, I always enjoy your articles and those of Paul and Rich, but where do we go to cast our gong to oust S.A. Smith? bonnerlou
Don't worry, readers. We're sure to be served next week with another round of daily, unrelenting McNabb stories from the Department of the Inane and Mundane (aka, Philly.com sportswriters). Like bugs to a light, they just can't save themselves. birdseed
there is lots of misinfo on fraud wolfs comments...1980 MVP was Brian Sipe, not Jaws..nice try..1980 was his best year of a very mediocre career...career numbers..28000 passing yards, 179 tds, 164 ints and an impressive 53.1% completion percentage...get it right agenda wolf..my man Lonewolf10
les, eric lindros parents were worst parents in sports history..never hire family as your agent...mcnabbs may have been annoying at times but nowhere near as coddling and disruptive as Lindros mom and dad...my man, Lonewolf10
Mcnabb winning a super bowl? I guess people like warpath85niraq forget how well he plays in big games. Now he has to do it with one of the worst O lines in football, a backfield that has three aging and underperforming veterns who haven't contributed to better teams with better o lines in two years and a WR corps that is a tenth as talented as the one he had in Philly. But it's ok national media and Redskins fans. Keep predicting big things. Reality will set in and you will all see what we've seen the last 10 years. Disapointment. ynot716
The only sad part in all of this is we'll continue to read about McNabb in philly papers for the next 5 years. He'll never go away... and Angelo will rant about him for the next 5 years... (HTML deleted) Grazman
Mcnabb will never win a super bowl. eaglesman1- I M Jim, McNabb was never the joke of the NFL. He was a great quarterback who basically stopped running after he broke his ankle and tore up his knee. He was great, but it was time for him to go since he just could not get it done here. don't discount what he did. Lonewolf, you are hysterical and insane. I cannot believe that you jumped off the Kolb bandwagon before he even has taken a snap as the starter. You are probably already looking for high schoolers who are playing, so after you cry about not drafting Tebow for the next 4 years until he finally gets a starting job and fails, you have someone else to immediately hitch your wagon to. you are a loon.
You mean the McNabbs didn't trust white people? What a shame!!! You mean they were not willing to reach out to the evil white press that spreads lying filth to the public everyday??? What a discovery. Heres hoping that 5 does well with the Blackskins. Even against the Eagles. philadelphiachild51- yeah, if the OL and Secondary come together the Eagles will be good. I agree that QB is an upgrade, but it's a bit absurd to say they'll be better if they can upgrade OL and Secondary. You are talking about 3 cover guys and 3-4 lineman. And no depth in positions where injuries are certain. The draft is the long term salve, but hardly the 2010 cure. jb99
"Don't discount Holmgren covering his own behind for getting Delhomme instead of McNabb." - borntosuffer Excellent point. Falkirk
What were the Eagles supposed to do? McNabb and Kolb each had one year left on their respective contracts. The Eagles had to choose their future and they chose Kolb. It is amazing that they received the 37th pick overall in a supposedly deep draft. Does anyone really think that McNabb is going to lead the Skins to a Super Bowl any time soon? McNabb had a good but not great career. You knew what you had with McNabb; you may have a great QB(or not) with Kolb. Football teams roll the dice with their future all the time; time will tell if this works out. It was time. syddan26- The author raises the issue of why are there so few successful QB's in the NFL while the other positions are dominated by blacks? According to the McNabbs, the media and some posters here, the underlying reason is racism. They feel the need to go on some sort of cultural crusade. Well, the rest of the world is sick of hearing that, because it is the furthest thing from the real truth. As if teams and fans would discriminate to their own detriment. If that were the case, we would see more white running backs. Is 80% enough? No. Why? Everyone knows why, but it can't be discussed due to fragile psyches and opinions about what is important in this world. But the bottom line is in the meritocracy of pro sports, you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
My take away from this is that you guys can't think of anything else to write about. Why not talk about the upcoming draft and team needs? What does the list of player visits tell us? Why not talk about the uncapped year and the Eagles salary purge? Why not talk about potential trades for Vick? Could he be traded during later rounds of the draft? Why regurgitate the same story that is becoming yesterday's news? I expect more from you guys. I expect only the best. CouchKing
Comment removed.
Skins were 4-12 last year. Campbell threw at 64% completion rate. They are going to McNabb who throws at a 60% completion rate. They are not adding McNabb and vaulting past the Vikes, Cowboys and SB champ Saints. CouchKing
The Eagles' writers should start talking about the draft, because the trades of Brown and McNabb didn't just slash payroll; they added draft picks. Those draft picks are crucial for the Eagles to build a Super Bowl champion. The Eagles and their apologists are having fun at McNabb's expense now, but they must have a good draft, and the long suffering fans should hold them to it. It's time to stop the BS and win a Super Bowl. 76erfn
For the larger portion, the Philadelphia fans and media deserve a stiff arm. On the other side, if there is little reason to suspect the Eagles will be terrible this year, then there is little reason to suspect they will be any better than last year. If Kevin Kolb IS a step down, then, with all the other problems this Eagles team has, it isn't going to be pretty--even if not terrible. I would hope that Michael Vick will be gone, just on the gp's. BEMiller
Corey301 That's the problem -- the defense won't lay him, or too many other people, out. I don't know what games you've been watching for the last few years, my man, but in the ones I saw DMac was fighting an uphill battle against his own defense time and time again. The NFC Championship game against the Cardinals is case at point. McNabb produced the late game lead. I'll say it again -- McNabb produced the late game lead. All the D had to do was hold for one series, and they couldn't do it. Result -- no Super Bowl. Now tell me, what defensive position did you see McNabb playing during the Cards'game winning drive? Furthermore, tell me exactly what has been done to remedy the defense liabilities between that game and now. I heard a report that even Ashante is talking about good things to come -- I guess he intends to actually tackle somebody this coming year! Listen, the definition of insanity has not changed. Don't think that replacing McNabb with Kolb will yield a different result if the defense can't stop any top-tier opponents and Reid continues refusing to run the ball to secure late game leads. All these fools who are posting predictions of Super Bowl victory are either delusional or on something that if not illegal should be made such immediately. newview- There is prejudice in this world, from all races towards one another, unfortunately, and we generally know when we see it, no matter how disguised. Donovan's parents are protecting their son, from whatever they percieve a threat real or unreal. All parents are guilty of this, that is human nature. The Eagles have always been a positive, progressive outfit, and starts with the Lurie's. The Eagles always take a chance on becoming a better team. No one person should ever compromise that. I believe Kevin has the right attitude, skills, and persona to be a great QB, but it always is a risk. Most folks here Love Donovan, but understand the whole dynamic of this deal, one year left on 3 QB's, need to have return on investment and Youth vs experience risk. Change is the only constant, impermenance is permanenance, and vice versa.
"I think the McNabbs have always seen themselves as cultural warriors..." Even as a less-than-middle-aged white guy, I would seriously love to see the McNabb cultural warriors use this opportunity to shine a light on the "Redskins" name. As another poster said, it's the same as playing for the Washington Darkskins. How is this not mentioned by the media more? Also, sign me up for Backup Garcia. Pseudochamp
Kolb is an ideal QB for the West Coast Offense, because he is an ACCURATE passer and makes quick decisions--unlike Donovan, whose expertise seemed to be throwing ground balls to receivers 6 yards away, and holding onto the ball too long (except for his unforced fumbles). Reid may annoy a lot of people, but he is no dummy, and I expect McNabb will miss the Eagles a lot more than they will miss him, and I predict 2 wins over Washington each year that 5 is their QB. gilbi
The #1 scapegoat is gone. Who will clowns like Angelo Cataldi and Rhea Hughes blame now? billym
Nice summary. McNabb needed a change of scenery. Eagles were not going anywhere with McNabb's leadership in a pass-happy offense. Eagles need to jettison Vick immediately. Amazing how the FO has over-valued its quarterbacks. Eagles settled for much less for McNabb than they expected. It will be likewise for Vick. Glad to see Eagles moving-on. Smashmouth
a stroke of genius by AR and company by moving McNabb---timing just right(the masters, start of MLB, final 4 after the annoucement)QUESTION-what do Tiger and McNabb have in common ??answer at end. The genius of the trade just insures the eagles with 2 division wins against the McNabb QB'd skins. Probably the reason "CAMP BRUNO"(food, drink, fun / games, & hiding the salamie) was cancelled in arizona this year because Shanahan will not put up with the antics of a BOZO! Eagles hopefully will finish the great cleanout by dumping KILLER and getting Garcia back to backup. ANSWER: both are known for low balls. jwatson
Time to change the Eagletarian photograph on the DN home page. McNabb is gone. Let's move on. Oh yeah. I have some slightly used #5 Eagles' jerseys available for sale. Cheap. Even the Haiti earthquake survivors sent them back with a "No thank you" note. CommonSenseJustice
McNabb or 5 is gone. Turn the page. Thank you for all you have done but I am still looking for a SUPER BOWL CHAMPION!! I am now 49 years old and still waiting. The Eagles organization needs to make it happen now. The Phillies are rolling!!!! Why can't the Eagles do the samething. Maybe Rubin Amaro can GM the Eagles too. I'll try anything as long as it works. SUPER BOWL!! mthamess
Will the real wiff please stop posting so we know who is who? Thanks. Hey wiff, DUUUUUUKE! What a nice pick that one was. 1 for 56 baby! Keep it up, I enjoy the yucks. BTW, are you still a moron or have you graduated to imbecile? tpizza
Awful lot of columns about an ex-Eagle. It's over. Move on! The trade was coming, it was good for both parties involved, there was no choice in the matter and there is no need to keep stomping on a player that gave life to a dead team. For better or worse we have a new QB. Root for the team to win and let it go. Can't wait for the draft so we can talk about CURRENT Eagles and the TEAM's prospects going into next year. DM is the enemy now. Enough about him. tpizza- hate to break it to you phink, but those of us with a clue realize angelo is just a clown. you may feel he impacts local opinion, but only other mental midgets gives a s--- about Angelo's babbling raoool
I agree that McNabb had to go...but to the Redskins? The revenge factor could realy hurt the Eagles. I wish the front office would fire Reid, and the Eagles could bring in a guy who believes in smash mouth football with a more balanced attack. This is Philly...it doesn't suit a West Coast style of offense. Carda3- I'd be surprised if McNabb signs an extension unless the Skins finish with a winning record. The Skins are picking 4th in the draft for a reason, they have lots of holes and a bunch of aging players. If they finish 8-8, it would be a successful year. McNabb isn't getting any younger. He likely will want to test free agency and see if he can latch on with a team that is closer to a SB. So the Redskins basically gave up 2 picks to rent McNabb for a year. It's a scenario which is at least as likely as McNabb killing the Eagles for the next 5 years. Meanwhile, the Eagles have shed salary and a bunch of aging sub-par players. They have set themselves up to be buyers next year in free agency when the NFL gets a new CBA. They MUST draft well this year. They are lucky because this draft is very deep in defensive players, their primary need. The Eagles are a young team, they may be up and down this year because they will have to start more rookies than they're used to, but in a season or two they should be hitting their stride. Dumping Vick- a good idea. Signing Garcia- not so much. He's too old, a couple of good hits and he's be on IR. I prefer Bulger or someone who is on a team right now who hasn't been cut yet.
Good information, OK the Sam Bradford is a stretch for anyone to believe, but we see Mc Nabb twice each year but so do the cowboys and giants and a win by Washington is like a win for the Eagles also.... I do expect a great year in 2010-11 maybe 11-5, this team will be better if only because the kids have another year under their belt . Also this trade is almost like getting a second first rounder because with the way other teams draft there will be first round quality still available with the fifth pick in the second round. Remember football is the ultimate " TEAM " sport and the better your overall roster the better the team. This looks like it will be an " if only they had" kind of team except I really believe that the guys that know also know that Kolb is for real.....Go Eagles steve mayrson
With an intelligent, quick releasing passer I think the O Line will think they died and went to heaven. The Mc Nabb thought that will stick in my mind is the cofused look he had in the pocket. let's see miracle worker coach of redskins deal with that. Phil Checchia
That Jeff Baby is an idiot with money. He seems to forget that the whole idea of playing is to win the super bowl. McNabb was not the big reason for not winning it. Fat Andy was the big problem think of all the drafts to help the team get to the big one he was the big loser. We are the Brides Maid and never a bride. boppa2- Great stuff. Columns like this is pretty much why I don't go outside the local media coverage to see what is going on with the Philly teams. Don't have anything else to add to what was already said by other posters...but ummm, what does dovetailed mean? how do you dovetail something? just curious.
warpath-ur team is still the lauphing stock of the NFL! ur getting older & THE BIRDS r getting much younger! MIKE SHANAHAN hasnt done a thing since #7 retired! He ran the broncos into the ground! SNIDER & SHANAHAN R A PERFECT MATCH! ahhah >flybirdsfly for years 2 come! socalbirdsfan

Brian Baldinger said it right that McNabb was the most overrated QB in the NFL. Now time will tell if it was Andy or McNabb. Fast Eddie
as much as i have been a "hater" of mcmoron the player, i have never wavered in my respect for his dignity and just plain human decency... that said i am overjoyed as a fan that he's finally gone because he was a bonehead as qb... and as a fan i want my team to have a shot at winning... i beleive that kolb will be much better... a better qb and a better leader... much better in every regard... and, even if kolb proves to be less ythan perfect or even fails it simply dosen't matter because he represents a commitment to winning the sb... if the eagles do great... if not i have renewed confifence their eye is on the prize!!! poor redskins fans can only look forward to more failure... i'm sure they'll be better than last year but even if they go 16 and 0, they'll lose when it really m,atters as long as the worminator is the qb!!! elmeaux_b
You know what cry baby Donovan MaGoo could of silenced all his critics with one great or even good RUN through the play-offs( like Eli Manning n Brees), which he NEVER had in 11 years here??? Donovan was the master of talking the talk: then making EXCUSES when he came up short in crunch time???Rex Grossman throws 3 picks in a SB, didn't you ever hear him use the "race card" when they said he choked, Donovan actually threw 4 picks in the SB, one was called back by a penalty that had nothing to do with the play. Willie McGinnis then the Patriot all pro LB, said while he played in Cleveland, that Bellichick STRESSED to beat he Eagles you don't worry about McNabb or T.O. you stop Philly, by keying on Westbrook, you beat Philly by stopping him. McNabb didn't have great WRs but he had the best all purpose RB in football for much of this last decade! mikey48- Wolf 4 QB Ratings: 1. D. Mac; 2. Jaws; 3. Randall; The Dutchman. [He only played two years] It was time for Don to go, but he was #1! The McNabbs are entitled to their opinions just like the rest of us. To deny that race played a part in Donovan's acceptance here is to deny that racism is still a problem in this country. Dick Allen was not booed because he was black, but because he was indifferent. We did however, hold Donovan to a higher standard.
Donovan always wanted to be the first Black starting QB to win the SB(DWilliams was a backup). He refused to use the gift of running he had because 'Black' QBs had the rep of being running QBs. He didn't run for one yard in the SB!!! Jim Johnson's defense gave him the chance to realize his dream. He failed. As BHopkins said, McNabb doesn't have the heart of a champion. KK can win a SB if Reid can put together a championship defense. greenflyer
What's the point in making the playoffs if you have McChoke in there? We could have gone 16-0 and he'd still choke. His time has come and gone. Yes he's the best we've ever had, but we aren't winning any Super Bowl with McNabb. If we were we would have done it 5 years ago when he was in his prime. Right now he's on the decline and his performance last year shows that. Trading him while he still had value was the wise thing to do. Kanayd
Looking back on it Andy should have traded Kolb for a 2nd kept McNabb so then when we draft Tim Tebow he can have a full year to learn what not to do by Mcnabb. Tim Tebow has tremendous leadership skills and always performs in the clutch. When the games get tight he excels unlike some folks like Roy "Frontrunner" Halladay. Tim Tebow is what this team needs....my man.- 1. Are you serious? Tim Tebow? Everytime he played a pro style D he sucked. Yeah let's trade up to get him. 2. Why are you hating on Doc? And how in the world is he a front runner? He's been on terrible teams his whole career. I may be mistaken but I'm pretty sure you're a moron. phlbnr
elmeaux_b, You say that you've "never wavered in (your) respect for McNabb's dignity and just plain human decency...", and then you refer to him as "mcmoron." Funny, but I've always thought that the best best to respect someone's dignity and human decency was to show some semblance of class in return. MG44

How are the offensive line and secondary going to magically come together? Free agency has come and gone. By the way, they're also thin at linebacker and need a DE opposite Trent Cole. He can't do it all by himself yet again this season phillyfan412
