Would Reid bring back McNabb?

Would Andy Reid consider bringing Donovan McNabb back to Philadelphia?

McNabb, who led the Eagles to five NFC title games, is currently examining his options, agent Fletch Smith recently told the Chicago Tribune. Three teams were said to have interest in McNabb. Smith would not say whether McNabb would consider a backup role or whether the QB was seriously considering retirement.

Reid was asked this at the NFL meetings this morning in Florida.

Question: Are you surprised by what happened after you traded Donovan McNab and would you consider bringing him back?

Reid: "I’m surprised by the fact that he didn’t have the success (after) leaving (Philly). I wasn’t there. I’m not sure how that worked. I still felt when he left here that he had 2 or 3 years of great football (left in him). It didn’t work out that way for him. I haven’t entertained that last part of the question. I haven’t gone there. I think it’s tough for a guy that’s been the guy for that long to come back."

McNabb had one season in Washington after the trade and received a large contract extension that really wasn't much of an extension at all. He then spent part of last season with Minnesota, beginning the season as the starter but eventually getting released and going unclaimed and unsigned by another team.

In light of last week's report in the Los Angeles Times that Reid threatened to walk away if he did not gain more control of personnel issues, Reid was asked if he really has final say.

"I’ve had that over the years. I’ve got the final say," he said. "But I will tell you we work as a team. We’ve always done that. One of our strengths is that we do that. We check our egos at the door. We work together. And we listen to each other. We have great respect for each other. And we come out with that final move and I kind of put the stamp on it.

The people I work with are phenomenal. That’s the way it’s been and will continue to be.

Specifically, as the report that he threatened to walk if he didn’t get more power," Reid said, "That’s not what was happening."

We will have extensive coverage of Andy Reid's meeting with reporters this morning at the NFL meetings here on philly.com throughout the day, so keep checking back.

I think it's a good idea as long as Donovan's ok being a backup. Clearly he was happier here, and a low throw is not an interception. Don't forget McNabb helped us get to one of two Superbowl appearances in franchise history. Bring him to camp and see how he fares against Trent Edwards.

Well he did say he wanted to retire an Eagle. So, I say whjy not. I doubt Mike Kafka or Trent Edwards will make the team. So, might as well reel him in.

Obviously you So-Called fans can't handle the drama. Things just got too spicy for the pepper. He better than what we have now in Kafka or Trent Edwards. I'm not even sure Edwards is gonna make the team because he's garbage. McNabb has known nothing but the Offense Reid has taught him. He'd be the BEST canidate to play backup for Vick. He may throw bullets to the ground but he's better than any other QB on the market right now. At least he's no party idiot like Vince Young. This can be McNabb's chance. They never put talent like they have now around McNabb. Do you guys ever think outside the box?

I loved McNabb and thought he got a raw deal but there is no way in hell you should bring him back as a backup. You have had enough controversy the last few years at that position and he is not going to want to take a backseast, especially in the organization that he took to the Super Bowl. You saw the the type of mentor he was in Minnesota. Unfortunately for him he is done.

I can see it now, Vick gets hit and be out a couple games. Reid puts Kafka in Kafrka throws picks all day. Next game he puts Trent Edwards in he throws okay but somehow messes up. Before next game Reid calls up McNabb and says he wants him back.

He wouldn't have to carry the offense. It's now built around Shady. He's better than what they have on the bench, and that's a scary thought.

The fact that no one wants him is two fold I believe. First his is play on the field, which has digressed dramatically. Secondly, his constant whining and interviews the past 2 years have turned coaches off. His put downs of Shannahan most likely didn't sit well with the other coaches in the NFL. It's a fraternity, and he shot himself (or threw up) on his foot.

We all know McNabb's propensity for throwing medium range passes low and long passes with much better accuracy.WHY ??
It's got to be mostly mental, partly mechanical.
You'd think somewhere between ability and coaching it could have been corrected.
    Too late now.
    Go figure.

Bring McNabb back; he could specialize in spiking the ball to stop the clock. then again, his execution of the play could pass for intentional grounding.
