Why did Kolb, Bradley return to game?

POSTED: Sunday, September 12, 2010, 8:04 PM

Kevin Kolb and Stewart Bradley both were re-inserted into the game after suffering what were later diagnosed as concussions.

"They were fine," coach Andy Reid said. "The [doctors] felt like all the questions were answered things they did with the docs, registered well. As it went on, they weren’t feeling well and we took them out."

Kolb's injury was initially diagnosed as a jaw problem after Clay Matthews slammed him to the ground. He returned to the game after the injury. He was 5-for-10 for 24 yards and was sacked twice.

Bradley's head bent back when he collided with Ernie Sims' hip. Bradley attempted to get up and then toppled over. He eventually returned to the game before being ruled out.

Asked why they were allowed to return, especially Bradley, Reid said, "Our docs and Rick [Burkholder] are on top of that. They thought he tested out OK on the sidelines."

As for their prognosis, Reid said, "I’m going to meet with the doctor and see how they all test out."

If Kolb is cleared to play and healthy, Reid said Kolb would start next week against Detroit.

Reid was asked whether he could foresee Vick becoming the starting QB at some point this season. "I think Michael did a phenomenal job today, he brought the team back, kept his poise, threw the ball well, had some good runs. I’m happy as heck for Michael. I’m not looking into the future here. Trying to get this fixed and win some football games."

Fullback Leonard Weaver has a torn ACL and center Jamaal Jackson has a torn bicep, seemingly ending their seasons. Both players will have MRIs in the morning to confirm the diagnosis.

The Eagles only have one fullback and two tight ends on the roster, so a move seems imminent. "We’ll get with Howie and talk that through."

On Weaver, Reid said, "He’s a phenomenal guy, a phenomenal player. That was a very ugly looking injury. I could tell right away when I started walking out on the field, he got hyperextended a little bit.

On the fourth-and-1 situation, Vick was lined up in the shotgun and stopped short. "We thought it was the right thing to do. That was the play we had, we felt strongly about it and it didn’t work. We thought we could make the first down whether it was shotgun or not." Reid said they practiced the play with Vick in the shotgun.

On not having any timeouts and using the last one with 5m inutes left, Reid said, "That’s just what we do there. Hindsight it was still a good idea … We just didn’t get it done there at the end."

ANDY REID- YEP that about sums up the last 11 years- thanks for everything fat boy- please leave now and take MM, bobby april, omar gaither, ellis hobbs, and fumble buckley with you- Honestly, all kidding aside, it REALLY makes me wonder what they worked on in training camp and the preseason- very very unprepared- Andy, the least u could do is come up with some new, fresh excuses

Actually, the Eagles did a lot better against Green Bay than I thought they would. I figured they would lose by nine, minimum. That was a very, very good Packers team and this young Eagles team will need a few more games to gel. My only worry is if they get too discouraged...

Kolb got his face ripped off. He was a deer in the headlights. I think he shocked Andy and the team with his total ineptitude. Boulder was right. Andy, Howie, Uncle Joe should be fired. Feel the worse about JJ and Weaver, two of the real Pros we have. Time to clean house and you can start with Peters, dumb, undisciplined and inconsistent. Justice can go. On D, Trevor Laws can go and Omar Gaither stinks. Put Chaney in as back-up MLB. How many tacles does Omar have to miss before AR benches him ? Trevard Lindley will b e starting at RC by the 4th game. We are looking at 3-13 with Kolb. 8-8 with Vick. Long, long year ahead. BILL COWHER.

The 2 300 yard games were flukes. Kolb got his face ripped off. He is finished. So much a dear in headlights that he shocked the coaching staff, his team and anyone who watched the worst half of Pro QB play in this history of the league. Lurie is a softie. Banner, Howie, AR, MM, Peters, Justice need to go. Two of the few real NFL players the Eagles have, JJ and Weaver are lost and so is this season. Despite Mike Vick, 3- 13 or 6-10 best. Finally, the house of cards Lurie built and sustained by # 5, Dawk, TT, Runyan, Trotter, Vincent, Brown, etc crumbles. Great job NovaCare complex. A Joke.

"The [doctors] felt like all the questions were answered" 1. What is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow? 2. Why did the chicken cross the road? 3. What do women want?
